Reupholstering

I redid my boat seats. I made a sundeck and bench seat in front of it out of treated plywood and outdoor wood. Has anybody had reupholsering done? Is it expensive? I might just paint the sundeck with rubber paint for now and use pads on the seats.

It's really expensive. Just check out a few people in your area for prices but be prepaired for some expensive news.

My Buddy Stan Tanner ( site member) just did his driver seat, pax seat and side panels on the gunels for ~$500 ish. Damn it looks great!!! I don't think thats alot. But if you ask me (stna don't laugh!) dude get that thing coverd in a matching color carpet! Can't cut it with fins ect... its bullet proof.

I used to have this old cajun bass boat, we had the middle seat recovered with gray, turns out it was the same guy (not to mention the same material) who made all the body bags for the local funeral homes.....it was really cheap, but there was just something about that seat.... Laughing

im in the middle of reupholstering my seats right now. The back bench is just about done (need to finish stretching the vinyl).

im just doing it myself and save a ton of money that way, but I dont have any colored lines or swoops to deal with, just white seats.

Thats all I'm doing is white. Where did you buy the stuff and did you just staple it with stainless staples? I like the idea of carpet on the sundeck. I was going to do it but someone said it would be wet when the girls sit on it. I think it would hold up good with the wakeboards though and the girls can get wet! Twisted Evil

we had our upholstry redone over the winter. without carpet it was $2200.

We had the upholstry in our old boat done a couple of years ago. It wasn't that bad, I think it was around $500. But the boat didn't have a back seat, it turned out really nice. We did white seats and a white engine cover with red piping.

go to any fabric store and you can purchace marine grade vinyl. Then its a matter of using the old pieces as a template, cutting out matching pieces and sowing them together. If you can get your hands on a sowing machine and someone to show you the ropes, its not too hard. Probably wont look like a $2000 professional job, but its much cheaper.

and ya, you just staple the vinyl to the back of the wood.

I'll post some pics of my back bench when im done with it.

Right now I just bought some pads that go on top of coolers. They fit but it would be nice to wrap the foam around the bench. Can you get foam from a fabric store also?

yup, you can get foam and everythign else you need. I completly rebuilt my back bench on my 82 stars and stripes. the wood was all rotted and the vinyl was ripped and ugly.

The only thing I am not doing is that the old seats vinyl had decorative lines stitched around every inch or so in stripes. Thats where the vinyl ripped (made a nice perforation) and sowing that would be a big pain in the rear). plus, I think I like the smooth look better. Looks more modern.
