04 SSV Dash (sub) vibration/rattle

I've asked this before a while back but didn't get much response. I was going to try a fw things this weekend, but wanted to see if anyone else has issues with there dash rattling b/c of the sub under the steering wheel. I see alot of decent size systems out there , yet know one ever mentions any rattle, is my boat the only one??? OR is it just something people learn to live with or put sound deadner all around?

What is rattling?. Gages, switches, fiberglass?. My old calabria rattled but I installed the same subs/ amps in my m.c. and no rattle. Go figure.
Home depot sells the equivalent to dynamat for 1/10th the price. Just a bitch to install. Another option is to use silkaflex or sonoborn np1. they are urethane caulking sealants. Just loosen up where the rattles are then install some of either and tighten a little till the crap sets up then tighten the screws the rest of the way. Have some acetone handy for clean up. Its messy

the dash itself. even after I tighten everything down the whoel thing shakes. It's liek hitting a big duble up...I'm starting to think it's the boat too. My buddies mastercraft doesn't rattle at all. what is the dynamat equivalent called at home depot?

My SSV dash rattles as well and it's not because of the sub. It rattled from day one before I added a sub. It only rattles when going through rough water though. I assume it's because the material they use on the dash is kind of "plasticy".

It doesn't really bother me though. It's just one of the many reasons these boats cost $10k-$20k less than CC's and MC's. For $10k-$20k less I can live with a rattle here and there.

Home depot has the 6" x 25' rolls for around $5.00. Same material as dynamat.
Be careful because once you stick it then it doesn't like to come off. I used it inside speaker cans and a friend put subs in his trunk. When the sub pounded it rattled his trunk. He did the inside of the lid with peel and seal and the rattle stopped. I don't know if it would work every where behind the dash. it would stick to wires and you wouldn't have access to anything but if you just used small strips at the rattle points I am sure it would help some. Another thing is if the dash comes out then you can pull it away far enough to put small rubber grommets between the dash and the fiberglass at each screw. Just a thought. Good luck, M.

Nauty, I was kinda thinkin the same thing about the boat. I'm going to try putting sound deadner underneath/behind everything on the dash that rattles and see how it works.

If you hear rattles then your sub isnt loud enough

Seriously, on my ssv I just tightnend a few things and added a spacer between where the dash connects which in turn made it tighter. No more rattles. The peel n seal that others mentioned will work great too.

Mike, what id you use as a spacer? I was thinking about adding rubber washers behind each of the crews tht hold the dash down and putting strips ouf sound deadner behind the dash and underneath it.

I found that my dash rattled where there were no screws to hold the dash tight so in between the screws I just stuffed a little bit of this flexible plastic strip that I had around the house and it solved the problem. You can probably use anything to fill the gap.

The rubber washers would probably work too because you would be isolating the the plastic part of the dash from the fiberglass part. Most of my rattles occurred where these two parts meet.

I put strips of dynomat on the back side fof the dash, and added the rubber washers. It helped some but its still not gone. I'll try stuffing some sort of stripping behind the dash, or add more washers.

Smack on the Dynomat and be done
