| Hey guys, I've just started wakeboarding alot this summer and in the first 3 weeks of riding I can do wake 2 wake, grabs, and a 180. I'm having trouble making handle pass properly behind me on the 360. Can anyone please give me some advice on how to practice this? |

In your free time just practice passing stuff behind your back.. Like if you get bored at school or something, grab a pencil and pass it under your chair
Make sure to pass low below your waist too. _________________

| Assuming you don't have a tramp tie an old rope to a tree and practice passing it as you jump or spin. |

make sure when u take off from the wake u have the rope in nice and close...at first i kept my arms straight out n i couldn't pass the handle...when i tucked it nice by my hips i pulled it first try...just don't forget to focus on the spin..after a while i kept focusing on the handle pass n would only go 270...kinda an ouchie.. _________________ Smile at the hotties on the boat...Huck ur new trick...Nail it and they'll think ur Wicked..and even if u bail they can soothe u afterwards:D...

Try to literally touch the handle to your lower butt, and like brath5 said, also keep thinking about the rotation. _________________ www.munsonski.com

For dry land practice i used an old handle tied off to somthing solid. Then i tied somthing heavy (like ten pounds) to the middle it simulate the pull of the boat. Then just pull the rope tight like your cutting in and when you in the air the pull feels pretty real. After jumping around for a bit, just off the ground u natrally figure out whats right for you. _________________ Theres nothing like going big, and then watching your friends go big. |

3s are a tough trick. You really have to focus on the handle pass, yet focus on the spin at the same time. Practicing the pass on dry land is good. It does help a lot. When you try this trick, dont try to spin off the wake. Make sure you get a good pop. When you are in the air, use the handle to start the spin. Pull with both hands towards your back hip like you are going to hit it. Keep both hands on the handle until they are close to your hip. then let go with your lead hand and pull the handle to your back. At the same time slide your hand around your body keeping it in close. Feel for the handle. It take a lot of practice to pass it, but when you know you have the rope spot your landing. _________________ take the time to contemplate who you are and where you want to go. Urgh, handle pass rotation, wowe hang on not heard anyone mention about the edging in bit. this is sooo important to on axis spins. If you cut too hard the handle will be too hard to keep in screwing up everything. Remember its only i guess 60/70% edge you normally do on most tricks just go wake to wake. its a soft edge and you want to come in somewhat "seated" with your back straight ready to pop straight up.
You have to have the above dialed before everything what you may be doing wrong with the handle pass. i learned it off the double up and tied the handle to a tree to practice again and again the pass. It is important to keep your head up. in the videos it says "look all the way around" well it goes pretty fast if you ask me!! BUT if you just flash the horison behind you for a split second that is when your other hand meets the handle behind your back it helps greatly with your awareness.
trampoline is also great for learning it too. As for one of the quotes above, dont pass the handle below your waist, well i mean you can as i do off the double up BUT it drops your shoulders i have found. the small you your back (waistline) is the correct place and text book.
all the best with it dude.
all the best |

A good handle pass trainer.....
I passed a few feet of rope thru a 12inch long piece of 1/2inch PVC pipe , knotted it like a handle and tied the other end to a jug of windshield washer liquid.
It takes some room, but you can get it spinning around you. It is good to learn the handle pass and depending on how full it is, you can adjust the "line tension" to build the passing strength. |

| roberts9, im gonna disagree on some advice given above. For a hs FS (on axis) 360...you probably want to pass it in the small of your back (right above your butt). Thats how I learned them, still do them, and have seen everyone else learn them. The only reason you pass below your butt is to be stylish or make an awkward grab on FS spins. On BS spins you pass below your butt so you dont get pulled over by the pull of the boat and fall on your back. Just clearing that up. The edge is important too...dont cut too hard. Most important thing is WAIT before you spin! (aka dont spin it off the wake, youll get really close but probably be a little off axis and land on your leading hip on the landing) |

To get the surface 3's slow the boat to about 17mph (depending on your wieght) and the slowly put more presure on you front foot till the board is leveled out the rotate using your shoulders. Remember to keep your handle in tight and low. I find it is easiest to do this trick just outside the wake on your left (i'm left foot forward) kind off in the trough.
Have fun trying. I leant surface 3's before i could jump as i had a crap boat with no wake. but they are a nice feeling trick.
Warning i got hurt more doing 3's than i getting trying back flips. |

| I learned the surface 3 on turns. try it on the inside of the turn, there is alot of slack in the rope which gives you enough time to get all the way around |
