I am currently trying to learn a Tantrum.

I edge hard and lay off the edge and surf up the wake and wait for the "trip". I get the trip and try to start my rotation. I get loads of height but absolutely d!ck rotation! I come down and land smack on the back of my head.

Why is this?

Thanks.

Do you know where you are looking when you try them? Most people I've seen with those symptoms are not throwing their head straight back.

Another possibility is that you aren't backing off enough at the wake. You need to have your back turned so it's parallel to the wake. You also want to make sure you are standing very tall as you leave the wake, that helps the rotation.

keep the rope tight. the handle is your throttle in a rotation. handle in close to hips = speeds up flip. handle out from hips= slows rotation.

Good point by Thomas, keep the handle tension tight. You also might not be "tripping" as hard as you really need to to help the rotation get started at the right speed.

So when you guys say keep the rope in, you're just talking about at launch, right? Cause most of the tantrums I see the rider in mid air has the rope extended in the lead hand and the trailing hand off and away from the body. is that the proper position?

Thx!

Well, it's not as important to have the rope in as it is to have the rope tight. You'll see people doing tantrums with their arm extended out, but the rope is tight.

I can rotate just fine, but I throw it to early. Any tips on how to make myself wait? I am trying to throw the tantrum in the bottom of the wake. I just don't wait long enough. I try to make myself wait longer, but it never seems to work.

the harder u cut into the wake the faster you will flip. right as you hit the wake open your body, arch your back and throw your head backwards. another way would be to bring your knees to your chest right as you leave the wake while throwing yourself backwards. bringing your knees up should make you start rotating alot faster. you can also grab he board when you do it this way, which looks even better! but technically that wouldnt be a tantrum i dont think.
