I'll teach my kids that it is wrong to hit someone unless they swing at you first. I'll teach my kids that it is NEVER right to hit someone for something they said. I don't like the use of "responsible" here. It takes too much blame off of the violent person, and puts it on the victum, to say that someone was "responsible" for getting hit because they said something wrong.
I see what you mean though, that they should have known that this would happen. Maybe they did. They came out before their new record came out and said they expected low sales because they were going to make music that they liked that they knew their fans might not like. So I don't think they are really concerned with money as much as you think. _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide |

| Earlier in this post i noticed someone was critcizing the dixie chics for not supporting our troops. They made a comment about bush, that doesnt automatically mean they dont support the troops. also, if you were seeing what people are seeing in other countries and reading the information that they are given abroad, maybe you would have a different opinion on this matter. No one should be threatened for the type of comment they make. This is america people. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, i give them props for not just following along like sheep and standing up for what they believe in. Regardless of my views on the war. Apparently, its over now anyway so whatever |

I think part of the problem is them using their status to voice an uneducated opinion. These are musicians who have no formal education in politics. Americans have lashed out against these statements recently due to theses facts. In general I don't like to hear what celebrities have to say about political events. Their opinions are skewed and by no means represent what the general public has to say.
I don't think threats are justified but I think that the people have made it known that the political views of the Dixie Chicks are not welcome.

| The Dixie Chicks and Modanna's tour buses need to get in a head on collision resulting in both buses flipping over, rolling down the side of a cliff, landing on the bottom, and both buses blowing up resulting in all of them dying. |

You're all missing the big picture here. The dixie chicks are hot.
But more seriously, I think they need to take a few tips from the greatest singer of time:
Interviewer: What do you think of the war in Vietnam?
Elvis: I'd just sooner keep my views on that to myself ma'am, I'm just an entertainer - that's all I'm doin |

That's a good way to end up in jail. I was taught to never hit first, and I was taught many years of martial arts. I never lost a fight, and I never threw the first punch. Except once. | Ya, if you wait till the first punch is thrown at you, it hits you dead center in the face and you are knocked out cold. Cameraboy, I guess you just got lucky all of those times. Always get the first hit in than dont stop and make sure they never get up. |

CB- I haven't been in a fight since the 7th grade, excluding athletic competitions. I don't put myself in the situation to be threatened. Not to mention I'm a passive drunk so that eliminates those situations. You can avoid fighting without losing face, not to mention I don't feel the need to prove anything through violence. _________________ If I agreed with you we would both be wrong. |

I agree with nor*cal.
Ok, always get the first hit in and don't stop until and make sure they never get up?

I, too, was taught to not take the first punch, but was taught how to protect myself. I think every boy should take one form of martial arts or another. It instills discipline...lots of it!
I was also taught not to put myself in situations that will 'cause conflict....didnt' work! _________________ my demo reel

Not quite dead yet, I have a question. What is a threat? If I say, I am going to punch you in the head, have I harmed you in any way? If I say I hope you cars goes into a wall, have I harmed you in anyway? In my opinion, a threat is nothing more than words unless acted upon by either party involved. With that, comes freedom of speech, do I not have the right to say whatever I want to under freedom of speech? I can hear it now, "making threats is not freedom of speech", but a threat is merely words until acted on.
Now, I should add that I don't agree with people making threats to anyone, those people take life way to seriously. They are merely trying to instill fear without taking any action to get themselves in trouble. Pretty much like a terrorist who doesn't want to really blow things up, just make you thikn he does. An impotent terrorist, yep, thats what they are. I would rather have someone threaten me than walk up and hit me. I can laugh at the threat, but I am pretty sure I would not be laughing at being hit. So now we will see if you can have your cake and eat it to. If you feel she had the right to say what she said, then you should feel that others have the right to say what they feel to her.
Personnaly, I feel she was wrong because of where she said it, not what she said. She is entitled to her opinion, but she chose to voice that opinion up on a stage in a foreign country. She then later made comments about not being sorry for what she said. She doesn't have to be sorry for what she said, she just shouldn't expect everyone to accept it, nor the way she did it. I am a US service man and I feel that she really discraced herself by saying that in England. I also feel that she insulted me because I support the decision made by our President, I have to abide by those decision daily, she does not. But she has to live with what has happened to her and her group, I do not. _________________ Chris |

Actually, Chris, I think you've crossed a line there.
What is the legal definition of Assault? It's is not hitting someone. It's verbal or signalled. Battery is actaully coming in physical contact.
Cussing me out, threatening to hit me or damage my property - that's assault under the law.
Freedom of speech? Only towards the Government according to the law. It is illegal to yell 'Fire!' in a theater isn't it?
Other than that, I agree with you. Also, I believe most of the 'threats' are hype that are spun by the publicists. Remember, any press is good press for a celebrity. |
