alright, heres the deal. yesterday evening we were out riding and i decided i wanted to try a whirlybird. so i try it, get real close, and after a few more tries i nail the trick. im all excited and everything. so when i look at the video that my friend recorded of me, it didnt really look like a whirlybird, but i could have sworn that i did it. i do tantrums all the time and i know what that feels like and the wirlybird was different. i dont really know what im asking but i guess the question is Has anyone done this? thought they did a trick, look at the video and have second thoughts? i hope this makes sense to everyone

Sometimes when people start throwing whirlys they'll throw weird tantrums that kind of twist backside to them it feels like they spin. My friend used to do them on the trampoline. You probably started off right but freaked out when you started turning and didnt committ to getting the handle around your head.

I did the same thing one time when I was learning them. No idea how I ended back up on the board, but it was definitely a weird feeling. Not like a tantrum.

What? Uh... you should definitely know it if you did a whirlybird. Either you spun or you didn't.

I agree with wakedude. A whirly should def. feel like a whirly. The typical falls are: intial underrotation with de-booting almost everytime, or taking them big and over-rotating and getting the good old head/back smack.

If you didnt get a serious case of quick spinning while you were upside down it wasnt a whirly most likely. The first time you get your elbow in your face you know immediately what it shoudl feel like.

it was wierd because i went up for the tantrum, and i began the overhead 360. i thought i was doing the full rotation.

Well there's your problem right there. You dont necessarily want to think about the Ole as "overhead" on a whirly. When you pop off the wake, get that rope over your head and then, as quickly and powerfully as possible, bring it over to your trailing shoulder (right if you are regular, left if you are goofy). I'm assuming that you just kept your arm extended out from your body, which will make it much harder to initiate the spin but it will feel like a whirly...kind of.

hope that helps, post some vids

Rick M, i wouldnt worry about that, you'd let go of the handle before that because it'd just yank you back and make your arm sore
