i didnt know if i should have put this in the general disscusion but i figured since it had to do with tricks i would put it here
it seems to me that to u have to do inverts to be good
if u know what i mean nobody really throws huge tail grabs or stuff like that
it just seems like if u can throw a whirlybird ur the man but no one really cares about a stalefish
just my opinion would like to here what yal think _________________ YEA I'M A BAND NERD WHAT YA GOING TO DO ABOUT YO!!!!

| Well it is important to be stylish and be able to do really nice looking grabs when you are good, but if you can only do grabs, I am sorry to say, you probably arent very good. I love watching a nice poked out grab but that isn't what i want to see the entire set. The grab needs to be linked with some spins and different inverts. If you can do a whirly bird and cant do a stalefish grab, i would be very very very suprised. It just comes with the territory of riding a lot. Eventually you get good. |

| anything with steeze is good to see. Id enjoy watching a tweaked out shifty stalefish with style as much as i would a whirlybird with style, anyone who can add steeze is fun to watch even if they throw simple tricks |

i love stalefish grabs. not a fan of indy and some of the basic grabs. unless you tweak em good.
inverts are always fun to watch, but a lot of people tend to do em sloppy. i guess thats only comparing to watching pros ride in the vids. not every invert will be 10' high. nor will every grab. |

personally i don't mind watching anyone board as long as their pushin themself...and in the whole style issue, tweaked out grabs are rad (i'm a sucker for a boned out slob grab) and i'm workin on switch stalefish to late bs 180's...thinking about it i could watch that trick with style over o/a 5's all day. _________________ Smile at the hotties on the boat...Huck ur new trick...Nail it and they'll think ur Wicked..and even if u bail they can soothe u afterwards:D...

The way I see it, a stylish rider with clean grabs and infinite hang time can be just as impressive to see if not more so than someone with plain old inverts.. of coarse if you can combine the two you kick ass.. Now on the other hand.. if you dont ever plan on going competition, throwing inverts is a good way to get hurt for nothing So why bother unless you got a chica in the boat that gets all hot and bothered seeing the inverts.. then i say get your arse upside down, asap. |

ive been skateboarding for about 8 years now. at about the age of 20 i decided i wasnt gonna go anywhere (meaning going pro or getting a sponsor) so i pretty much quit trying hard stuff. i never tried to kickflip a 9 stair, or do a handrail, or any of that stuff. i pretty much became content with the level i was riding at, and enjoyed myself. nobody may ever see me do anything new or crazy, but im out there having a blast doing the same stuff over and over.
i kindof look at wakeboarding the same way. i know ill never be good enough to go pro or anything like that, and i dont wanna hurt myself trying anything, but anythings possible. id like to be able to do inverts, just because it looks rad, and looks fun. the key to not getting injured is knowing your ability level and staying within that...if not pushing the edge a bit. i know i still need to work on clearing the wake consistantly, therefore i probably wont be trying a tantrum or raley anytime soon. but who knows, a few beers, and some peer pressure i might try one, it is only water right? _________________ http://www.myspace.com/muxpux

Ian_82, I don't think an invert has to be 10' high to be stylish I mean I'm 6'1 so I don't get the huge pop the little guys do but I do my tantrums and whirlys with a laid out style where I really arch my back and lay the trick out with some steeze. I see kids who take their tricks alot bigger than I do but they tuck their head to their chest and sketch out every landing and I'd much rather watch someone go a little lower but do everything clean and laid out.
Watch some of the old movies of Byerly and stuff when they didn't even have pylons yet and he is throwing clean hs mobes maybe 5ft high but they are way cooler to watch because they are so smooth than someone who does one thats 12ft high and the landing is sketch and he is all tucked up and hucking the trick. _________________ www.soswakeboard.com

Craig-R, my whirly's are alot better lately. I think you've seen maybe two or three vids of my whirly. One from September 05(first whirly in a contest), one from November (yea it was sketchy) and then one from April that I blew my knee out on. I'm sure Holloman101 and Wakerider07 can back me up on this because they ride with me, but my whirly's are clean and consistent. Also I still haven't seen yours, but then again you can't do a tantrum so how could it be clean? _________________ www.soswakeboard.com

You need to keep your bicep across your face, your letting the handle out and that makes you open up when you spin. Not my favorite style on a whirly. I really like when people pop up and spin late on them and that was what I have been working on. I came up short on one and that was the one that ate my knee. I have them consistent and clean and have landed a whirly 5 (day before my knee wreck). Also just on a side note. I think your a good rider, but your not well rounded nor would you do well in contests because your a heelside hero as well. You have a handful of good tricks and you haven't really progressed in the last 10 months. In the 2 months proceeding my accident I learned hs grabbed bs 180's, switch hs grabbed bs 180s, ts grabbed fs 3's landing wrapped, switch hs bs 3's, and began working on alot of tricks to blind and landing wrapped including tannyb r2b pete rose switch and regular bs 5's and ts fs 7.
What happened to David's backside 3? He had one 10 months ago but not the recent video. _________________ www.soswakeboard.com

Just because we don't put something in the video doesn't mean we can't do the trick. To say we haven't progressed in the past 10 months is a major understatement, considering that both of us haven't ridden more than a few times during the past year that we both spent at Miami and Rollins. Summer is when we get to ride consistently, and we just started to get back into riding these last few weeks.
Also on a side note, what kind of boat do you ride behind now? |

Agreed... How could one possibly throw every trick in the bag, with only one day of filming? More so, tricks that look terrible, and those that have sketch landings.

True... How could you get better if you hadnt had a chance to be on the water? By the way, that would be an overstatement, not an understatement.

He rides Tige... Hence the link in his sig.
David, you will be better by the end of the summer if you keep working both sides of the wake, both regular and switch. As it stands now, your lack of TS tricks truly lead to your "Achilles Heel." _________________

david-d, It's not about someone's skill level. You should respect him just like anyone else.
How can you say you don't wakeboard when you go to Rollins? Isn't is one of the top wakeboarding colleges?
Also, I do most of my tricks everyday I ride. Atleast the bigger ones. When you have such a small bag of big tricks I suggest throwing them all everday until they are consistent. _________________ www.soswakeboard.com
