ruh roh.. here it comes
I, own a 19 ft 99 Bayliner, with Monster Tower, and ballast.
It works for me, but am looking for a larger wake.
Do a search, there are plenty of discussions on I/O (inboard/outboard) boats as wakeboard boats.
I will give you a quick summary.
There are many on here that might bash you..
I/Os like ours, typically have mellow, washy wakes. You have to play with the trim to get a decent wake. Add ballast (such as fat sacs) in the bow of the boat initally, then ski locker, and some in the rear as well.
As you will find out, putting a tower on any boat does not make it a "wakeboard boat" There are boats designed and purpose built for wakeboarding, such as those offered by Mastercraft, Malibu, Moomba, Supra, Epic, Correct Craft, etc.
There are many features that make these purpose built boats "wakeboard boats", such as hull design, larger engines, perfect pass (cruise control), factory ballast systems, Direct or V drives with a fixed prop. Primarliy, I would say it is hull design.
My advice is just enjoy it, and make the best with what you have. Be sure to experiment with adding weight (people or fat sacs), and the trim. Search for posts on I/O wake.
Good luck and just remember to have fun! _________________ Be an organ donor! My father is alive today because of kind souls that donate life... |

I second the great post comment. Far too often do people get flamed because they ask a newbie type question. It's nice to see someone help a brother out with some good advice instead of only telling him to search for it.

I just wish everybody could just remember what this is all about: FUN!

jixxxer, depending on your circumstances.. there are used wakeboard boats out there too. PLENTY of discussion on this already... when it's time to start research, use the search for used boats.
When I bought my boat, I didn't wakeboard, it was for hanging out on the lake.
nonetheless, I got my boat for a very good price, so I am pleased with the purchase. It serves the purpose for now. _________________ Be an organ donor! My father is alive today because of kind souls that donate life... |

What a beauty! About how much does a bayliner run, in comparison to the high-end wakeboard boats? _________________ People should not be afraid of their governments.

Bayliners in general are probably the best bang for your buck, and it may not be a high-end wake boat, but the thing I like about i/o's is the wake. Non-weighted, they usually have a really nice wake, but when weighted, it's just great. You could find a bayliner for maybe 30 000 CDN while a high end wake boat could be an upwards of maybe 80 000 to 90 000 _________________

How much did that boat and the setup cost you?
I'm seriously considering a Bayliner, considering my budget. _________________ People should not be afraid of their governments.

I have a 2002 Bayliner Capri 195 LX, 18-10" length, 7'-6" beam.
Seats 7-8 people no problem. has a 4.3L Vortec V6 with Alpha one outdrive.
I have no problem pulling 3 tubes, 2 wakeboarders, even fully loaded. It will also do 60 MPH.
I paid $10,500 for it with 30 hours on it.
Monster Tower was $1000.
I am always modifying my vehicles so this sucker is going to get a heater, ballasts, and a bunch of other junk this summer. But I plan to keep this boat for another 5 seasons at least....
the wake actually has a great shape to it though it is a bit small when the boat is unloaded.
With ballast or a full load of people the wake is actually quite nice.
I wanted a true inboard, but could not pass up the deal on this boat (3 seasons later its still worth more then I paid, lots more). It suits my needs just fine, lakes, ocean, rivers. Its great for fishing, boating, floating, cruising, etc....
Nothing wrong with a GOOD Bayliner. I say that because through the 80's and early 90's they didnt make a very good boat IMO.
Not everyone needs to spend $30K+ on a boat, nor can afford to. Want to? yes. Will someday? most likely. my bayliner will do fine until then |

Funny thing about a bayliner. About a year ago we were in a collison wtih another boat(long story, it was a bayliner). The guy acted like he was going to shore so my dad started to pull me up. THe next thing that happens is the guy is right infront of our boat as soon as we are on plane. Our boat totally tboned him right at the windshield. His boat was left with about a 2 foot indentation, we almost directly impacted the driver as well. Our boat had no structural damage at all. The guy was a total jerk about it as well. He tried to say it was our falt and all that bs. He didn't even stop to make sure we were all right he just headed straight for the shore. I thought my dad was going to kill this guy at first, but I got him to calm down. Oh yeah the way he was heading to shore looked like he was heading to the boat ramp. It was a mess his boat was trashed and ours still runs like a champ. Sorry for the long post/hijack. _________________ RIP DLS.

No, the guy cut us off. My dad was clearly getting ready to pull me up out of the water. Hell the dude came within like 50 feet of me. _________________ RIP DLS.

I guess you are as oblivious to the point of my post as I(and I am sure most others) are trying to figure out the point of your post???
so the tip(one of the strongest parts of your boat structurally) of your boat punctured into the side(probally about the weakest point of any boat)....whoopty dooo... and this adds quality to this post how??? _________________ www.midwestwakeboarder.com

Giving input on what I thought about bayliners. What crawled up your ass, sorry I didn't notice the sarcasm icon on your post. Wait a minute there is no icon for that, well dam sorry for not noticing it then. What have your last two posts contributed as well? Nice run on sentence as well, I could make three whole sentences out of that, but you did a great job of running it all together. _________________ RIP DLS.

nothing crawled up my ass dude.. this guy asked about what everyone thought about his new boat...
soo you come on here and say his boat is crap because this one time, at no fault of yours, this guy in a bayliner gets t-boned by your boat so it is obviously a piece of crap...
hope that is enough of a run on sentence to form a 100 sentences... _________________ www.midwestwakeboarder.com

some day, when you buy your own boat, with your own hard earned money, you will realize that there is something called constructive criticism, and you will be able to give/receive it in a way that will not make someone feel that they are not as good as you are because they didnt buy what you did/would've.
And if the bayliner had t-boned you instead, the damage would have been the same, just on opposite boats.

Here's mine, works fine... on my budget. Since crazy boarders are doing flips in the flats, you don't need a huge wake to do stuff. A bayliner can throw a respectable wake. Enjoy your affordable rides brothers.
