The Story:
We all went on an offroad trip in East Texas. (Some guys from another site). I left my truck at my buddies house to catch a ride with someone down to the place. Well, I parked my truck at my buddies house who was getting towed down, and his roomie was on the other trailor with his rig. So, yesterday, my buddies roomies truck broke out at the place, so they were going to fix it and trailor it back today if they could get it off the trail. So, as a favor, I left early with the guys that were towing my buddies rig home because they needed to get home. We missed an exit, and couldnt get the trailor with the 3 other cars going back to austin turned around, so I told the guy to just drop the rig at this gas station, and I will drive down the axis road a mile to drop this trail rig off and grab my truck to head home. About half a mile down the axis road, a cop pulls me over. Long story short, I have 5 different tickets. 1 of them is for not being able to produce insurance on the vehicle, another for having expired registration on the vehicle, and the rest were for faulty equipment, or no equipment at all. Keep in mind, this isnt my vehicle and I was driving it about half a mile for my buddy who was staying in east Texas to help fix the other rig on the trail. Is there anything I can do to get these tickets dropped? I most certainly cant afford to pay for all of these tickets, nor can my buddy. I just wanted to get some feedback as to what I could do about this. Thanks. _________________

Wow cop sounds like a d*ck. A ticket would be expected but so many tickets is just a jackass of a cop. Give the guy a ticket and give him a warning... _________________

Aren't these all just "fix-it" type citations? or is it truly a Ticket that will go on your record? _________________
8824, dude - I suck. You were right.
. |

Dragonlady8, I think they are more or less fines... From what I have added up thus far, I am at a grand of citations... Not counting court fees, and the like. The best thing of all is I am facing losing my drivers license for a year for operating a vehicle with so many defects too it... God damn, the thing is a trail only rig. It just so happened I had to drive it 3/4 MILES TOPS on the street to get home. Bubb Rubb Bubb Rubb Bubb Rubb Bubb Rubb Bubb Rubb! _________________

Blake, I guess the only thing that you can do is get the stuff corrected and drag your friend into court with you. Hopefully the judge will reduce or waive the fines _________________
8824, dude - I suck. You were right.
. |

| I'm a bit confused too... but $100 for a lawyer might be a good idea vs. $1000 for fines. |

Blake, call the JP in the county the offense occured - I am assuming JP due to the fact that you were offroading in East TX. Or whatever office is responsible for the tickets. Simply ask the clerk about the fines/penalties. Most of those sound like waivable offenses if documentation is provided w/i 10 days or so.
If they aren't, fight the ticket. Since it sounds like a rural area, you probably won't luck out and have the cop not show up. Remember, the cop was just doing his job - to follow the LETTER of the law. Appeal to the common sense of the Judge, as it's his job to decide whether the SPIRIT of the law was broken. Explain it just like you did in your original post. But with paragraphs. And a breath between each sentance. |

From what I read.... I don't believe he wasn't cited for speeding. _________________
8824, dude - I suck. You were right.
. |

Follow JT's advice. If you explain the special circumstances you might get them waived. You have to be very careful driving those off-road rigs. Mine is a ticket fest waiting to happen if I let her hit the streets now.
Good luck. |

Ahh I guess I figured it was the same for other traffic offenses. Speeding was the only time I've been in court, smaller tickets(inspection) I just paid at the clerk's office.
There is a difference between being a good cop and being a jackass I think. I've had cops sit and watch as we pull each other on a sled behind the car. Others have stopped and threatened to give us a wreckless driving ticket(in our own damn parking low). Guess it's better then actually getting one though. _________________

If you do take this infront of a judge, simplify your story. I almost shot myself getting through 2/3rds of your post.
"Our friends truck broke down, and I had to get home. We were less than a mile from where I had my car parked, so I borrowed THIS truck. I tried to keep off major roadways and to get off the road as soon as possible. I have worked with the owner of the truck to get these equipment citations fixed on his truck. Here are the reciepts..... etc"
short and sweet.
If that doesn't work, just hire Wakerider07's dad. He might know the judge. _________________ Hell, If I knew it was going to be this kind of party, I would've stuck my d!ck in the mashed potatoes. |
