They can, they are good swimmers, they just don't like it.

I asked my cat if he could swim and he said "meow", not sure if he was being sarcastic or not.

I don't have a cat, but from six pack I am going to guess they don't like to swim at all. That cat didn't ever swim, it just jumped out of the water back on the dock

Almost all animals can swim when they need to. Except Armidillos.
Now, what is the only mamal than cannot jump?

One of my friends has a cat that actually likes to be wet. It will try to get in the shower and the sink when you turn the water on, kind of freaky...

All animals can swim? Here is a story. Saturday at the lake we brought or shar pei pup with us he is about 6 months old. Never been swimming yet. While on the back of the boat, My son pushes him in the water. I look over the side to check on him and he is swimming, but swimming down toards the bottom of the lake. I jumped in( fully dressed) the save him, as he ripped me apart bringing him up to the boat. Not sure if he just cant swim or he saw a big catfish and went after it.???

I had a cat when I was young that would jump in the pool and swim around to cool off.

We threw the family rabbit in the pool to if they could swim. Sure enough the rabbit swam like a champ.

My family went camping one time and took the boat. The boat sat out of the water uncovered over night. We took it out the next day and were doing some fishing when this cat comes flying out of the storage area and made a beeline to the rear of the boat (we were up front). Thinking it was still where it got on the boat at, it lept off the back of the boat into the lake (big surprise there I figure). It was about 35 or 40 feet to the shore, but he spotted it and swim right to it. I can't say for sure, but I think he turned around and gave me the finger for his troubles. Just like a cat though, stows away on my boat to stay warm (as if Sept in Alabama gets cold), then gets mad when he has to go swimming.
I honestly thought my son had thrown something off the boat when I heard it hit the water, then I saw him swimming to shore. He had a long walk back to the camp site also. Not like I was going to attempt to get him back on the boat to take him back.

back a long time ago, i stuck my cat in a hamper and duct taped the lid. since the hamper had all the little holes on the side of it, i decided to dunk it in a full bathtub, the second it hit the water the cat knocked the lid off.
also my yellow lab dog is afraid of water, so i had to push it off a dropoff in shallow water to deep water to see if it could swim.

Stewart Little came to WSSR last weekend. Sunday morning I was getting ready for my first set and there he was chasing our boat in the middle of the lake. He managed to get some rest on our swim platform for a little bit but another boats wake washed him off.

Cats can definetly swim, my cousin has one, and the cat got really pissed when we out it in their little inflatable pool and clawed up my cousin's hand.
