Boss Tower Mirror Mount Questions/Concerns!!!

I just received a boss tower mirror mount to fit my nautique flight control tower and I haven't been very impressed so far. For people that have these, was yours completely polished? Mine was not polished where the rectangular cutouts are and I think it takes away from the look of the arm. Secondly, HOW IN THE WORLD do you get the black knob tight enough to keep the arm from falling down? I tightened it as tight as I could and it still slipped when I hit a double-up. The last thing is that instead of cutting the mirrors to fit specific tower sizes, they just send you metal shims, which didn't sit flush with my tower and scratched it all up. Oh yeah, the screw stripped out too, so now I have to send it back after having it for one day. What is everyone elses experience with these and do you have any tips for getting the black knob tight and not having it scratch my tower so bad. Thanks!

I have one of these. I replaced the black knob with a chrome button head allen bolt/screw that I found at the hardware store I also added a chrome flat washer and lock washer under the bolt head. Works great!! I had to cut some threads off the length of the bolt because that hole is very shallow. It has not moved since. That knob is a POS. Recommend replacing it.

Mine did not come with the shims that they supply so I made my own. Anything you mount on the tower is going to mark it up unless it is a soft material.

The knob that comes with the mount is too long. You can cut a thread off or add a plastic washer to it.
