| I have a 18.5 ft boat with a 4.3l 205 hp Merc i/o that got winterized this winter. I have never prepared a boat for a full year of wear and tear. What do I need to do to get this puppy running like a top? I hear I need to start the engine (put a hose on the prop???) and run the "fogging" out of it. Is this correct? Is it a necessity to get a tune up/oil change now? What do the pro's that don't want to spend an arm and a leg do? Thanks! |

Well no help from you all I put my plug back in, connected my battery, and ran a hose. Puppy started up just grand. I didnt put it in the water yet, but it seemed to run well. Did I forget anything before I put her in? |

you need to change the oil and the lower unit fluid at least. For the oil change got to lowes or home depot and buy a drill pump. Grab 3 barb end hose fittings and some hose. For the lower unit fluid check you owners manual. There are also a couple grease fittings on the outdrive that need lubed.
Also I'm not sure I'm reading you post right but if I am don't start the boat without a muff on it pumping water in. That can be really bad for your water pump. |

| In addition to fluid changes I wax the boat and do a thorough clean, check / lube cables, replace the water pump impeller, charge battery (trickle charge during winter). Oh make sure you close all your engine drains. I replace my plntm spark plugs every other year after the first run out to let all the foggin oil burn off. Check all your electrical stuff...that is where most of my problems creep up. I'm sure ther are some things leaving out?? |
