The boat came stock with (2) 275lb ballast tanks on either side of the motor compartment. I need more weight, especially up front. The ski locker area is about 16x16x52". That is perfect for a launch pad fat sack(440lbs). But from what I've read, its good to have 60% in the back, and 40% up front. I want to have about 1200lbs of ballast total.

Here's the question I have....can I replace the factory ballast tanks with larger ones? I have about 10" more of space above the tanks that could be used to fit larger ones. Or should I replace the stock tanks with fat sacks in their place?

I would prefer not to hook up a permanent ballast system, just because I may trade the boat in a couple years.

What are my options, and what do you guys suggest?

Chad

How about some lead? Add a lot of weight w/ minimal space & will be easily removable & you can transfer it to your new boat...

You don't want to run your boat the traditional 60/40. The Mob-V needs 60 in the front and 40 in the rear. I would suggest you run the Big Bump (700lbs) or the CG (950lbs) in the ski locker, and run no more than 400lbs on either side of the motor. I've played with every different option and this works out the best for transition, wake firmness, and ability to run in the 21-22mph range without the lip rolling over.

k...I have (2) 440lb sacks on the way. I think I'm gonna play around with those for the time being. I'll stick one in the ski locker, then where would you guys recommend that I put the other one? I could either put it up front in the bow, or directly on top of the ski locker in the walkway(I have the flip up seat thing that covers the ski locker) or on the floor in the back of the boat..

it's hard to say exaclty where to put it...it just depends on how you like the wake. I would say that your boat will be better balanced just from having the one 440lb in the ski locker. I think that b/c of your relatively light tail, putting the extra 440lb in the front would level the boat off too much, so I would say put it on the floor in the back of the boat. I really think you would have a sick wake by putting an extra 200lb or so in each rear area w/ the tanks (again, i'd suggest using lead, as you could redistribute it if you wanted, & it takes up minimal space) & your extra 440lb on top of the ski locker. I know I run roughly 550-600lbs in the back of my 21V w/ around 900lb or so in the nose...

I have an 06' lsv...pretty much the same

I have 2-750# in the rear and a 600# in the locker. wakeplate corrects the steepness for the most part...i couldnt be happier with the way it turned out
