I just bought a new boat. I was wondering how you tell how many hours you are putting on the engine without a gauge on the dashboard. I'm new to most things boating so this may be a stupid question, but I wanted to follow the break in schedule on the engine and get it up to 20 hours or so before we start aggressively wakeboaring this summer.

Most boats have an hour gauge, what kind of boat did you buy? Our old '96 Sea Ray had the hour meter in the back ski locker. I would think that if it's a new boat it would have one somewhere, take a glance in the owners manual under the gauge section.

Some older boats have them mounted in the engine compartment. I relocated mine under the dash, so you might want to check around the drivers area to see if the previous owner did the same.

It's an '06 Reinell, which are made here in Oregon. Solid boats, and the company has been around about 75 years. I'll check in the engine compartment and ski locker when I get off work, but I've never seen anything there before. I didn't see anything in the manual about it, nor was there a section on gauges other than the dashboard ones

Yeah I finally found my dealers number! He said they don't put engine hour gauges on the new boats cause people just take them off or change them when they resell or some bull. I don't mind so long as I keep track of the first 20 hours or so. He mentioned something about getting around 5 hours per tank of gas so I'l go by that
