What is the speakerbox for, tower??? the fill depends on what kind of speakers its for. Some subs are recomended to have a certain % others have none.

Fill it. It will help prevent noise and vibration from bass coming out of your speakers.

I think some people have just used packing foam. But do a search and you can probably come up with some alternatives.

You should consider using MDF over plywood. It's MUCH easier to work with and a bit denser for a better sound. Just be sure to spray/brush a coat of fiberglass resin over it when you're finished. MDF tends to warp easily when wet. If you're putting it in the nose you should apply some resin to any type of wood box.

MDF is cheaper, easier to cut, dosent chip or leave splinter, and is 100 times better for deep bass

I'll second pretty much everything said here, like Wakebrad said, fill it. Another thing you could try for fill is pillow stuffing.

As dyldebus said, MDF is the way to go for speaker boxes.
