money_mike,
It means the trick is initiated by a "tripping" motion. In this case, it's tripping over your heels almost like you're catching an edge.
Take a look at the trick tips section on this site for a full run down on the Tanny. _________________ (insert funny chit here) |

I looked at the trick tips section a while ago, and this part confused me too!
I would think that you could actually catch an edge while doing this. _________________ People should not be afraid of their governments.

| It doesn't actually mean that you catch your edge. When your cutting in to the wake for a tantrum you will square up with the wake when you get there. By doing this, along with extending your legs, the wake will push your board around into the proper rotation. It feels kinda like you are being tripped. So no, you don't catch an edge, that would be disastrous, the wake, when you square up properly (read the infinite tantrum posts on this forum to learn you), just kinda pushes your board around in that tantrum rotation. |

In my opinion, there is way to much emphasis placed on "tripping" for a tantrum. When people hear that they are supposed to let off their edge, half of them end up letting off before they even get near the wake. The "letting off" should be a last-second thing, and then you should just push off with your feet at the TOP of the wake. The rest is simple. _________________ www.ten-80.com |

I agree on the too much empahsis part, but that was the question.
Whenever anyone asks me how to do this trick, I always emphasize up, not out. The best advice that I was given for this trick was right before the first time I landed it.
Approach the wake agressively, open your chest towards the shore you came from while changing your edge and try to pop/jump straight up and come back down in the same spot. The speed of the cut will throw you across the wake and the rotation is initiated by the wake and the 'trip' effect that ocurrs when you hit it.. _________________ (insert funny chit here) |

Kyle schmidt gives a really good description of the 'tripping' motion in 'The Book'. The analogy is to imagine that you are rollerblading along a flat road backwards and then you roll into the kerb and your body goes backwards while your feet stop so you flip over (or fall over).. But if you were to anticipate the 'trip' and you bent your knees and jumped at the same time as you were tripped then theoretically you could do a full backflip and land back on your feet.
Now waters a whole lot more forgiving than solid objects and the timing is much, much easier. On a tantrum you pretty much need to just open up so your back is facing the wake and push off with your legs.. Dont open up untill your just about at the top of the wake and your board will get 'tripped'.. Once you do it once you'll wonder why you wasted soo much time fooling around.. _________________ Riding
