|
|
| I am looking into buying a notebook computer and was wondering if anyone had some good suggestions. I have a buddy who is a computer engineer and he can get me a good deal on a 15" Superdrive Powerbook. I have also been looking at Dell and I like the 600M because of the centrino technology. I guess my budget is between $1000 and $2000. I edit movies on a Sony Vaio at home and I like it but the Sony notebooks seem over priced. Depending on the notebook I get, I might just use it as my primary computer and have a docking station at home with a monitor and keyboard. Any suggestions would be great....thanks |

Did you try
www.xtremenotebooks.com
They usually have some really good deals, plus if you | Quote: |
purchase your new notebook, tablet pc or projector with a personal or business check, bank wire transfer, cashiers check or money order, you are eligible for a REBATE*! (2%)
|
I believe their top of the line notebooks w/ centrino cost range from 1349 (1.3) to around 1829 (1.6) pre-rebate. _________________ Behind the boat house, I'll show you my DOCK SECRET

Are you looking for a notebook or a tablet pc? There is a difference. Ive seen some nice tablet pcs that can convert to notebooks for just about 2000. _________________ "I knew those girls were pros, but don't tell Turtle, it'll break his heart." - Drama, Entourage |

A tablet pc is a laptop pc that comes with a stylus and you can take notes on it as if it were a piece of paper. I'm suggesting a convertible tablet pc where you can either write on it like a piece of paper and/or type with the keyboard that comes with the pc. _________________ "I knew those girls were pros, but don't tell Turtle, it'll break his heart." - Drama, Entourage |

| I haven't really looked at tablet PC's because they seemed to be pretty expensive and I don't know if I would really have a use for the writing surface. I would not use the notebook for work (other than to do grades) so it would mainly be for personal use. |

| If you are looking into video production or anything graphics related, get the apple powerbook. Apple's far surpass any other computer for graphics related processing and production. |

What do you mean you can get any software for a mac you can get for a PC and then some, and even if you can't you can put windows on a mac and run both operating systems. Why you'd want to do that I have no idea, that's like sticking a yugo engine in a corvette. _________________ Shane Cook

| Any software that you can think of for a PC, it will run on a Mac. Apple has developed a Windows Emulator that runs on their Unix Jaguar OS. EVERYTHING will run on an apple. |

I just put in an order for my Apple Titanium Powerbook. Currently I'm using the G4, and I've had a few Macs before that including the ibook which I was pretty happy with. I also use a PC at work along side my Mac, and they work just fine together. THe new powerbook that I have on order will also have Mircosoft Office installed. I'm not going to slam other computer companies, but I think you can tell what my preference is. I think that there is far better standard software installed on the Mac when you get it. iPhoto is amazing, you can edit home movies on iMovie, and burn em to DVD with iDVD. Great for executive presentations too! It comes with Word prosessing stuff called Apple Works, and it's exactly the same as Word, Excel and Powerpoint in one program. Internet is super easy and so on. I'd never use Windows again if I had a choice. GO to the Apple website and see what other 'switchers' have said. happy hunting. _________________ 500 up |

| Thank you everyone for your advice and suggestions. I am leaning towards the Mac Powerbook. Like I said before I could get the 15" Superdrive model for close to $800 off from a buddy. The only thing holding me back at this point is the fact that I have all of this PC software (Premier, Photoshop....)that I will not be able to use on my new Mac. I work in a school district that is filled with Mac's and the OS took some time to get used to, but I like the way it works. Thanks again everyone. |

Talk to the software companies and tell them that you've switched Operating Systems. They may be able to ship new software for the price of the CD's. You'll still be using the software just on a different platform. You may get lucky. Give it a try. I know that if you lose a CD they'll ship a new one as long as you have a serial number.
good luck _________________ 500 up |

MACS Rule and that's the only way to go. People are just biased towards Mac's because honestly they weren't to great until these last two years. Now they are so much better than any PC you can get. I can have so many Programs running at once and it will never freeze up, I had that problem all the time with my PC that was running off XP. So the PC users shouldn't say anything about Mac's unless they have used them. _________________ Thanks in Advance for the Help,

Ohhh and also if you go to the Alliance Web Site Matt Stacker has nothing but good things to say about Apple. He compares them to PC's. _________________ Thanks in Advance for the Help,
