Hey all - I'm looking to buy my first wakeskate and hoping to get some help.

A couple things first;
-I've been wakeboarding for 10 years
-never been on a wakeskate but I've been skateboarding for 10 years
-based on my readings here I'm looking for a grip deck, no foam
-I don't want to spend a lot of money
-I don't want a low end board
-I have no problems with buying a 2005 to meet those last two points
-I am 6'1" and 175 lbs

I am considering 2 boards from Evogear who I've dealt with in the past and I'm combining this with multiple items so I'm pretty stuck on getting my deck here.

1. 2005 Liquid Force Impulse 43" reg$190 sale$119
http://evogear.com/Wake%20Shop/Liquid%20Force/outlet_item_5772_1449.aspx

2. Liquid Force Tech 42" reg$199 sale$99
http://evogear.com/Wake%20Shop/Liquid%20Force/outlet_item_4202_1449.aspx

Wakeboarding will still be my main watersport but I'd like to play around with a wakeskate every once and a while too.

Any feedback, thoughs, review, opinions, whatever would be great!

Your not going to want to go for that 2005 impulse. They've have lots of delaminating problems. The 06's are supposed to be better and I've heard good things about the liquid force skates. But as always, don't forget to look at the smaller companies. Here goes the list again: Sattelyte, Oak, Integrity, Distortion, Level 13, and there's a few more. Lots of the guys from these companies are really good and can give you lots of information.

madtekniques, well... I would take the 05 in a heartbeat over the 04, the 04s delammed really quick... You could get the 05 and just re seal it and I think you would be fine if you took really good care of it...

Is this delaminating issue with the LF wood laminate decks only?

There is a hyperlite wood laminate deck at the same place.

Hyperlite Phriction 2005

I am 100% open to other companies but I need this shipped to Canada and I want to stick in the $100 range before shipping.

madtekniques, well, the hyperlite isn't really that good of a board IMO.

LF has had some problems with delamming the past couple of years, but so have several other companies. If your deck starts to waterlog you can always reseal it yourself. Out of those 3 boards, I still think that the Impulse is the best deal. You won't find too many decent concave boards that cheap unless you buy them used.

If you really want to keep your price around that 100$ mark, don't be afraid to look at a Kampus deck (esp. a K-series if you can find one) George Daniels, Philip Basino, Clint Tompkins, and Nick Taylor are all some major players in the wakeskate world that really started their progression on those boards. Cassette, sattelyte, and Oak also make good flat decks in that price range. You gotta remember, with a product such as a wakeskate, you are really getting what you pay for, so if you truly want a nicer upper level board, you probably are going to have to shell out some extra cash than 100$ unless you find a killer deal.

madtekniques, check out Sattelyte skates. They are made in Canada (and based out of TO), so shipping would be much better for you. They are super solid wood decks, grip top, & priced right. We have a 43" flat and a 41 & 43" concave this year. They definitely meet every one of your criteria above.

www.sattelyte.com and PM me if you have any questions.

Hey Cary, to tell you the truth I cheaped out and bought an LF Faction for $49 because I couldn't make a decision.

Funny thing about Sattelyte is that I actually know Garry personally, he hired me at West 49 years back and I've been out snowboarding/partying with him a bunch. He was supposed to let me try out a deck back when the company was starting up but it never panned out. I moved from Kitchener to Toronto and I haven't seen Garry for a while now. I checked the website you linked and couldn't believe it when it turned out to be his company (i obviously didn't know the name prior to that). So, I emailed the generic contact on there and Gavin got back to me saying he'd pass my contact onto Garry but I haven't heard anything back from him yet. I'll play with the Faction to start with and if hopefully I'll get into the sport and pick up a Sattelyte later in the year then keep the LF as a slider and beater board Smile

Thanks for your reply, unless I ever saw Garry again I probably wouldn't have put the two together.

Chris
