I just got word that Sidewayz was filming this past weekend and the Vandall was Riding at 30 mph and 90 ft behind a SAN. That's insane.

i think it's probably easier for him to ride faster and further back. i wish i had a boat with a good wake that far back because the longer the line the slower and smoother everything feels for me. even though i'm going faster i dont notice the extra speed. you should try it sometime behind your new nautique dees. i dont mean 90 ft and 30 mph but try taking a set at 80 or so and about 26 mph.

The Vandall makes almost all other pros look like they are on the B-squad.

Parks had a good quote in Alliance, he basically said Randy is doing stuff right now that other riders can't even understand, and noted that he is indeed a few years ahead of the pack. I mean its obvious he goes huge, anyone with depth perception can see that, but the level he takes his tricks to and what he can do with variations is just amazing. Like that Remix wrapped frontflip from NBT, you see it and think 'ok I have no idea what just happened there'.

Whats all the advantages? Or is this just an expression of individualism?

advantages of riding longer rope? better air time, and with that long of a rope you basically have to go that fast so theres still a wake back there

hmmmm....the farther back you are the wider the wakes are, but the faster you ride the closer the wakes get....i dont know how they would offset themselves or not...
the only real advantages that i can think of is that he can cut out wider because the rope is longer. also he wont get pulled down as hard when he is in the air becuase the rope is longer than usual and creates less of an angle above the horizontal compared to a 70 or 75 foot line. this MIGHT be one of the reasons why he goes so big.

an advantage to riding faster is the way your board sits on the water. the faster you go the higher it rides and the more solid it lands. if it was possible for randy to go as big as he does at 30 but only going 20 it would probably be pretty tough to land without sinking the board. also the pop off the wake is more solid at faster speeds and the water just feels smoother under the board.

well a couple weekends ago i was riding at 26. really with a lot longer rope you can go faster and it doesn't seem as fast as you think it would.

The wake is alot cleaner an higher speeds and you need a longer rope to take advantage of how much farther back the wake gets wider.

There is more time in the air, so you can take the tricks bigger and smoother. Slower spins, longer grabs... Wake is clean and solid too.
My friend rides 90-95ft and 26mph. 95ft is a damn long line...
I ride 80-85 when possible.

When you a Gangsta you can do anything!

The longer rope length makes everything go slower! like wes said.
That's why when someone here said to shorten the rope to learn 360's under a trick tip post I said no way keep it the same and just do the trick right. Shortening it for inverts possibly, so you clear the wake but in theory you just make everything happen faster when you get closer to the boat.

I always try to ride as far out as I can depending on the boat and day....

Randall rips, that's for sure.

PEACE

Just got Shaft and Shafted. Watched shaft last night. Damn are the guys young in that film. It was crazy to see a younger Parks, Shane, Vandell, Darin Shapiro, and to see them rippin on older boats with high poles instead of a tower. Good section of chics rippin it up too....

ha I just noticed something cool- in his bonus section on the NBT DVD w/ the Tupac song (or the last section on the vhs), the part where it goes..

"Take your time to feel my record, and if you did
chill a second, my blind method, will still wreck it"

...and it has Vandall going huge on a method to blind. Thats cool, good job Sidewayz.

I saw him ride thursday afternoon on Gator's SAN. He is amazing, everything has so much style and he goes huge. he had 9 people in the boat with the ballast and a few sacks. we all had to get on the hull to have the boat plain out. Once it did the wake was enormous. He did a remix off the kicker, huge off axis 540, 180's that reaked of stlye and just about everything else you could think of.
