hey everyone. the boat i'm riding behind now is a cobalt 232, and i've had to use its little ring on the tail of the boat to ride off of, so naturally i've become interested in how i could go about setting up a tower. i have no idea how i should measure things or which towers are the best and any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

Generally it would be the manufacturer of the tower who would measure the boat. I know most of them have the measurements of tons of boats so you just tell them what type of boat you have and then they fab up a tower specifically for you, or have that tower size in stock.

As per brand, I like the people at Roswell Wake Air (http://www.roswellwakeair.com/). They are awesome, if I was in the market for a tower, they'd have my business. There are the big brands to look at...Boos, skylon, titan etc. Basically I would find a design with the features, price and design you like. Contact them and ask them if they have, or can make a tower for your boat.

Good luck!

refused....
The net is the best place to shop around. Personally I would check out MonsterTower.com. I know that Bill checks these boards and he'll probably reply. Super guy, and they offer great customer service, and I haven't even bought one yet.

But there are lots of after market tower companies. I've been looking too, and found it hard to provide intfo to them about my boat. Basically there are only 4 measurements you need to take. THe width of the boat where the tower legs will mount. But they will be interested in what the hull looks like so that they are sure one can mount on your boat. I'm positive there is a solution out there for you. Post a pic of your boat, and I'm sure tower reps that surf this site will respond.

best of luck

I would call the company that you are interested in buying a tower from and see if they have put a tower on your model before. If not they will be able to tell you where you need to measure from. I bought a Titan last year and am very happy with it. It is solid as heck and was a piece of cake to install. I put the whole thing on myself in under 2 1/2 hours. The onle thing I need help with was someone holding the wrench up top on the bow connections cause I had to get under the closed bow to nut the bottoms. I would look at the titan's, others like the boss. I would stay away from the sylon tuna tower. My friend has one and it sways really bad.

Check these boards, heck I'm addicted!

What year is your Cobalt and what budget are you working with? I believe people that have new boats (within a few years old) should first consider the factory tower if there is one available. A huge factor is hull warranty, some manufacturers are voiding the hull warranty if you use a "non-factory" tower on your boat. They'll never state if there are valid technical reasons or just that they want to make an extra grand off you. Downside is they are VERY expensive.

If your boat is older then a factory tower is not available and there are lot's of us that make nice aftermarket towers. Some are universal and some custom made to your boat. Most of the manufacturers sites have installation instructions you can check out to learn more about installing

Search through the threads here, tons of great info.

Bill

(all that and no shameless self promotion!!!)

thanks everyone. our boat is a 97' i believe, and i have checked out the cobalt site. i don't know about whether or not the new towers there are even compatible with our 232, but they're all upwards of 3,500 (which is insane). as a junior in highschool i don't have the funds for this Confused . while we're kinda iffy about drilling into this boat, i'm assuming that there are other towers out there that would install onto what we have now in the same way that the cobalt tower would. i know nothing about what brands to check out so basically, which brands would y'all recommend i start checking out against my boat specs? thanks again for all your helpful information.
