Try to relocate some where warm. I grew up in the Portland area, was fortunate enough to move to Florida for 3 years before being relocated back to Portland. The weather sucks, rains too much, and it's cold. Guess I just miss the warmth.

todd unlike you , i dont post crap unless i feel i have enough information to back up what i am saying. also this is a matter of opinion so i am pretty sure i know what i am talking about as it is MY opinion not yours. feel free to not post direct attacks against me when i am just giving my opinion as requested by the topic of the post. you are just making people in washington look lame. thanks.portland is number 3 or 4 on places to live for me. vancouver doesn't even make my list of 100.

You speak from lack of experience then, the difference between Vancouver and Portland is very minimal. I have never made a broad blanket statement like "is there anything to do in any of the small towns between portland and seattle? didn't think so". I am just stating my opinion also, which is you made an ignorant statements like the one I quoted and you don't really know what you are talking about. You must not have been to Vancouver very recently, Clark county has been one of the fastest growing countys in the nations over the past 10 years because of the mass exodus out of Portland and how great it is in SW Washington. Numbers don't lie so you stay up in Seattle and keep making overgeneralized statments and not expecting me not to call out you lack of knowledge. I like Seattel I personally have the choice to live in the Portland Metro or the Seattle Metro areas for work but I live down here because I prefer the area, it is clean the people are friendly, no real traffic nightmares, less rain, less taxes, less people, less polution, Mt Hood and a whole lis tof others. have fun in Seattel and I will stay down here.

Hey yo guys, what about the Northwest reputation for friendliness!!! I think ya'll both have great loacations, and should feel fortunate to live were you do. You both seem very happy at the place you have chosen. EVERY place has it's good points, and bad points....

IMO:

Points that favor Seattle

1) Location to Vancouver, British Colombia and other sites in BC.

2) Close to many Parks and Nature.

3) On the ocean with great views.

4) well kept city and nightlife thats second to none.

Points that favor Portland/Vancouver:

1) Location b/w both ocean and year round snowboarding at Mt. Hood

2) Has the Willamette running throught the middle and Hood River Gorge close bye.

3) Close to Parks and nature

4) Has the most micro brews per square mile than any city in the US!

Thanks for the tips. Looks like our relocation date is around mid-June and getting closer. Just in time for the wake tour. Anyway, if you guys have been riding, Im jealous. New Englanders dont seem to be to into the sport (I thought WI had a smaller scene). Anyway, once I get out that way, any of you guys want to try and hook up for some boarding and a couple of brews? I think we have decided on the Portland area based primarly on the weather. Vancuover sounds pretty good. My wife and I are trying to decide if we want to live in the downtown area or off in the suburbs. Anyway, my board is getting dusty, I went from riding everyday of the summer for the last five years to getting out a total of 3 times last year, I still suck.... anyway, if anyone has any input on downtown verses Vancouver, let me know.

good luck where ever you decide to move. just check out both cities first. taxes are different as are the locations. if you make it up north then send me an e-mail and we'll see what we can do about getting you a pull. the weather is definately better in portland. see you on the water,

Hey Wake100, if I was moving to Portland, I would look in the northwest area around the Pearl District. Forrest Park in right behind it, and the Pearl District is just an amazing place to hang out.

Also, If I were you, take a week long vacation to Portland and stay in different areas, explore the city and see were you might fit in the most. IMO, its a beautiful city, and someday, I might be relocating myself Razz

I know a quite a few boaters there, and they all are the nicest people around (except for us Texans o' course Wink

).

One hobby you might want to try is Windsurfing. The Hood River Gorge has been ranked #1 in N. America for the sport. Kite boarding is also getting popular.

I live in Woodland WA, 25 miles north of Vancouver and work in Hillsboro...grew up in Michigan and have been here a long time. You can't beat the Northwest as a place to live if you like the outdoors.
