Looking For New Wakeboard And Bindings - CWB?

I am moving from beginner to intermediate. Just at the point where I am trying to jump the wake (I can get a little air). I bought my Wakeboard and Binding off of eBay but I am now at a point where I need better equipment. My current board is a Hyperlite Offshore. It is 144cm and very heavy! I am 5'10" about 225lbs. This board seems to me like a rock compared to newer boards. My bindings are Liquid Force Flex. They fit ok but hurt my feet a little as the rubber seems hard. I have tried friends O'Brien bindings which feel much softer.

I have been eyeing CWB for a while. I had wanted a Sol board but I think it might be more of a beginner board than I need. Now I am looking at the Absolute 141 or maybe the Pure 140? Which models of CWB should I be looking at? Any other board manufacturers/models I might like better?

For bindings I am looking at the CWB Zeus hinged. Any other models/makers I might want to look at as well?

Last question, is the equipment I am looking at more advanced than I need or is it at a good level because it leaves room to advance?

no one here can tell you if a board or bindings will work for you. the only way you will know if a board and/or bindings will work for you is if you demo them yourself.

don't base your purchase on someone's post like, "get X board, it's the best board in the market." well, sure, it may be the best board for them, but i may not be worth poo to you. so the best thing to do is to get a few suggestions, write 'em down and take 'em to your local shop.

with that said, demo the cwb marius and liquid force watson bindings.

jjct1, with you just staring to jump it's going to be hard to know what board is for you. Alot of the characteristics of a board are based off of how they lift off of the wake. On the other hand, you will probably be able to tell what bindings you want based on how they fit. The Liquid Force Omega is an awesome board to progress on, and then to ride once you have leveled out (you won't outgrow it skill wise). Plus, I'm pretty sure LF sells it in a package with bindings.

When you can get a Pure from CWB with the hinge boots set up as a package, I see no reason to look elsewhere. Older Absolute shape, boots that are amazing, all for cheap..

jjct1, construction. the absolute uses slightly better materials but 90% of the people that ride it wouldnt be able to tell the difference. the pure is an old absolute shape so it will ride similar.

I believe most new Pure's are about 2 year old Absolute models. I started with the 2004 Pure (2002 Absolute model). That design now appears to be the 2006 Sol. With the molded fins and a removable fiberglass fin, it allows you to adjust just how tight you want it to be. As you progress, you can go to smaller fins or remove the fin all together. Not a bad buy really. I've heard good things about the new hinge bindings but have not tried them, Mine came with Torq's (2004), but I tore the top of one binding last season while on the road and picked up a pair of 2005 LF Alphas. I really like these over the Torq bindings I had on it. But go demo and see what you think. I suspect you will like the board.

Is there a big difference between the Torq binding and the Zeus? Both have the hinge.

I'm going to have to suggest the omega. It is not a beginner board and doesn't come with beginner (i.e. cheap) bindings. The CWB board isn't poor quality, but it has been my expirience that the bindings found on the package deals were sub par. The Omega can be used by anyone of any level. Ben Greenwood rode/rides this board, and the bindings that come with the package (element) have the F.A.S.T. system (easily adjustable) and are quite supportive.

The difference between the two boots is that the Zeus are more supportive and com up higher on your calf than the Torq. They also cost $329, the Torq is a sick boot and is a little more flexible but with lots of hold down still. They cost $200. As for the boards the Absolute is a great board, it covers many skill levels well. The Pure is an old Absolute shape(3 years old) and is awesome as well. I used to ride that shape & loved it, not I prefer the bigger pop of the new Absolute. You should also look at the Flame it is the Absolute of two years ago. The Factor is probably the most user friendly. Hopfully you can demo, you will find a winner in the midst of those options.
