TVA is spilling water over Norris Dam due to excess water in the lake of about 2ft over normal. They rarely do this and when they do it is usually just one gate. This time they opened all three flood gates. I have seen this only one other time in the past 20yrs.

Also, they keep a TVA patrol boat close by on the lake in-case someone has boat trouble or tries to get close to the dam. I have one picture of a tree going over it.

Here is one of the pics-the rest are in my media gallery under: Norris Dam OverFlow Photos

..all I can say is dam

Percy Priest has been ok, no dam activity, water is only 1/2 foot or something over summer pool.

looks like the best acid drop in spot ever!..

That one on the branch on it looks like it would be fun to ride down on a skateboard deck or something. Or an intertube...

Kind of off topic but last year me and my cousin used to take swimmers clothing articels(pants, shoes, shirts etc) and throw them down the dam into the rapids. Laughing Embarassed

Well whatever it is, I think i would try it. Maybe its the angle of the picture, but it doesnt look too steep for me. I wasnt saying a wakeskate, i would want something more like skateboard deck.

Well that changes everything, it looks maybe 30 - 50 feet to me cuz i have nothing to compare it to. In that case, i dont think i would hazard that fall.

It wouldnt shoot up, the worst that could happen would probably be the board sliding out from under me and then me riding all the way down on my bum. And i possibly could hit my head, but its no biggy.

The sacrifices and risks of fun. It would be well worth it anyway.

those dams are nothing compared to hoover dam. i was up over there when i was on a houseboat trip to mead. and i was kinda think about riding through the overflow at hoover like mr. c said but it was empty. the transitions looked really nice for skating and what not.

friend died in one three years ago. It was a small dam, and he got caught under the intakes, and the pressure wouldn't let him move. THe rescue people came and took them way too long to get int there cause the river was so strong. Finally a cop went in and when he touched the kid he was to tug on the rope and they would get pulled out. He tugged the rope and then it broke. Both bodies were removed several weeks later after they plugged the river further down. You may have seen it on the news.

be careful.

How did the cop get pulled in or whatever? That last post was kinda confusing.

On a serious note, if you get caught in the undertoe or whatever under the damn, your best bet at making it out alive is to ball yourself up and hope to get spit out.

But the water in the dam looks like its hugging onto the concrete wall like a waterslide. That would make it possible to ride the skateboard deck all the way down. I dunno what i would do once i got to the bottom, but by that time the adrenaline would be pumping so i wouldnt really care.

yeah that's what happened to the guy in my earlier post. Well sorta. Anyway it was a small dam, and a group was sliding down the thing on their feet. My buddy fell in and got caught in one of the grates under water. It sucked him in. The cop went into rescue him as part of the rescue team, which was planned. More or less to get the body as the water was so strong they couldn't do anything until they blocked the river. The safety rope the cop was tied to broke and he too was lost trying to save the boy. They literally stopped the river after about a week and retreived the bodies. It was a huge deal in our smaller city. Sorrry my last post was confusing.
