Just tried my new landlock from Hyperlite this weekend (nice plug, huh?). Didn't come with a video or nothing . It was kool, but I'm not sure if I got it right. We got a clean wave at about 14mph (I have an i/o engine, almost spooky). Now supposedly your supposed to be able to drop the rope, and cruise in the wake, couldn't do it. Tried at slower speed; just sank. and faster, just sank.
NEED TIPS!

NO, you need a wake or you are doing something wrong.....
I don't go a penny over 12 MPH with a real 6'9" surfboard and can ride laps around and around.
I know everyone has a slightly different way of doing it but for us we drive about 11 mph in a slight bank turn with all the weight on one side of the boat, we pop up with the rope then let go, it's that easy. You need to be starting at the right point on the wake also, too far out no good too close not safe or cool.
I have yet to use the new landlock board, but we have one at the shop and I'm sure I'll be the first to test it out. I'll let you know if we have to do anything different as far as the setup goes.

thanks for the tips. Do you want the clean, rampy wake or more of a wash? My rope's pretty short, maybe I'll try it even shorter (I have an I/O though, dont wanna get chopped up).

Hyperlite has a video demo for the landlock. go to hyperlites web site and click on downloads and then landlock demo. It should show you how close to be.

Yeah thats very dangerous, they were not really designed for outboards or I/Os (at least as far as crusing without the rope)
You got to get real close to the boat for that, with a I/O or outboard its a fatality waiting to happen.
Hyperlite didn't put warnings about only using this with inboards?
Stop immediately if you are using this with the I/O.

Ooooh, HATERS .
It sounds worse than it is, which is probably the problem because I'm not THAT close to the prop (just got my hair cut and dont need it shorter, thank you very much).
I kinda get the feeling the landlock is a little too thin. Maybe slightly thicker would keep it on top of the water better?

Duke, thanks for the links. They were definately closer than I have ever been. Unfortunately, I couldn't seem to get such a clean "wave" off my boat, except at higher speeds

I would highly advise that you stop wakesurfing behind I/O's. Come on guys, common sense.
Extreme my ass. That's frickin suicide. An accident waiting to happen.
I guess this is proof that the theory of evolution is valid

Duke,
Did you board behind the Tsunami, too? If so, how was the wake?

Duke, thanks for the tips.
Ahhh, the complexities of sarcasm. Of course I wear a vest, I'm not a Pro doing a photo shoot where I can influence a bunch of kids. However, I am serious about not smoking 'sherms' anymore while driving

Well, I tried the wakesurfer again this weekend. And for you 'safety sams' out there concerned about the i/o, you have to be plenty behind the boat. Because the prop is behind the boat rather than under it, the wake has a different dynamic, and wont even start to have shape till at least 10' behind, so your not right up on the back of the boat. The problem is I havent gotten a face on a wake yet, but still experimenting by moving all my buddies around.

does the Tsunami throw out a good wakeboard wake?
-meaning up there with the Mastercrafts and Malibus
if so, it's the first I/O I have ever heard of that had a good shaped wake...

I have a 2002 Tige 20v. In these shots we were running about 600# and 5 people in the boat at 10.5mph and TAPS all the way up. The 20v and 22v put out a great surfing wake - very big and clean, as you can see. A few more pics...

| I had the big fins on mine and it was too slow. So I switched to the small fins and now it works great. You don't need huge fins anyway - we were able to ride the board finless even. If you haven't tried it you should, definitely good for some laughs.

so it has a good shape? Why don't they use the Tsunami for the pro tour? Why is it better than an X-Star?

The simplest way to answer your question is MasterCraft pays for the exclusive rights to have their boats pull the Pro Tour. That’s very well known were have you been?
