I've been reading so many posts about backroll. I tried couple times (like 20) without any success.

Everytime I do a backroll, I can finish the whole rotation (means I can land with my board) but the thing is I CANNOT spot my landing until I landed. Therefore, my legs weren't ready to absort the impact and I fell. Also, my body & legs weren't straight which makes the roll so ugly (roll like a ball) Embarassed

Here are my couple questions:
a) Do I suppose to keep edging when leaving the wake? Means edge all the way?
b) How do I "throw the board away from the boat"? This one ready confuses me. Does it mean I need to lean forward?

I will try to post a video later...

Your advise is appreciated. Thank you very much.

OK here's a step by step

1. Cut outside the wake, but not too far, like 10-15 ft

2. Set a solid edge and build some speed

3. When you get to the trough of the wake, begin to straighten your legs

4. As you're about to leave the wake, begin to get your body moving in the backroll rotation, this does not mean huck it, or try to throw it off the wake, this just, with help of the wake, initiates the flip

5. The first one I landed was completely blind and I wasn't ready for it, so I know waht you're talking about when you say you can't see it. But you should know about where you are in the air, this helps. Also make sure you're looking over your lead shoulder so you have a chance to see, and DON"T CLOSE YOUR EYES.

6. When you hit the water, don't panic, ride it out and get on your edge

7. When you get out to the side of the boat, YELL AND THROW THE ROPE DOWN, you just landed your first backroll.

NOTE: Don't worry to much about the board going behind you. You don't have to raley it out back ar anything. If you do what I said, everything will fall into the right place.

A good backroll should be more like a cartwheel, which makes it easier to spot your landing.

I can finally landed my backroll, but my buddy on the boat told me that i wasn't getting any height. It was W2W, but it was more like far enough but not high enough. Also, I was still rolling like a freaking ball... ugly.... Embarassed

My season is done. I think what I'm gonna try next seaon is coming into the wake way slower and hopefully it will generate more air. Also, to me standing tall and roll isn't natural.... sigh... Neutral

Anyway, I know I'll nail it sometime. Ciao and thanks for all advises.

this is what i was told to do....by nicala fisher and nick and julz heany

imagine that thers a bouy hanging down from the sky...

come in 10-15ft out on a progressive edge

and you want the top of you board to hit the bouy and that will make the rotation

look over you shoulder and spot the landing

and let go with your right hand to stableize you.

sorted mate
its a peice of piss!

once you have landed it once it comes everytime!

hope this helps!

cheers
toby

ok i only wakeboard during the summer, mostly on weekends when i go up to my other house in new hampshire. i have a glastron so i dont have a tower or huge wake or anything. iim pretty sure i get enough air for a backroll but i've only gone for it a few times. what length should i use on the rope?

Drop the rope back to wherever the wake is the rampiest and cleanest- usually right before it folds over and washes. Ski boats and v-drives are usually 60-80 ft so your Glastron should be 50-60. Just throw the rope/handle back and go at your normal riding speed and adjust the length manually until it looks right.

Also shorter rope lengths usually mean quicker rotations, so don't get in over your head-- or you will be landing on your head!

glico, you are probably throwing it too early if you aren't getting the heigth you normally get. Atleast thats what I had a problem with at first and once I started getting my timing down better my heigth was good.
