| Whats the story on this boat??? is it good? Some one told me its basically a mini X-star, but with only 600 Lbs of balast it doesnt seem like the wake will be that huge? i heard they changed their hull as well... whats the difference? how much weight do you guys think i will have to put in it to get the best wake? im J/W cuz it seems to be a pretty hot boat and i was taking a look at it. |

| Bunch of guys on here have them now. I think some are still in there break in period, and the others haven't been able to sac their's out yet. It is still winter after all. Everyone seems to be disapointed with the factory 600 lbs. Just a heads up. With the x-star hull under it though it should kick up a wake with more ballast. |

They are Maristar hulls..no center fins. MC 'flagship' wakeboard boats have never been Maristars....always Prostars. I was kinda turned off by that when I saw them at the boat show. Besides the 'pickle' front..not sure the exact hull diff's between the 1, 2, and Star.
Any of the MC boats need loaded pretty good for a nice size wake.
The shape will remain good, and once you start getting to about 2000lbs, the wake gets nice. |

Now I am a bit confused? I started a post a couple of days ago asking about the various models of MC. ( http://forums.wakeboarder.com/viewtopic.php?t=53988 ) I was informed that the 'flagship' wakeboard model is the X star hull design - which actually makes sense since this is the series that comes standard with all the wakeboard accessories. I was told that the Maristar hull is the same as the larger X series boats and the Pro series is the "ski" series, having a flatter bottom and DD.
If all that was told to me in the link above is true, it seems to me that the "Pro" series boat could be classified as the 'flagship' of ski boats, not wakeboard boats. Ture/false?? Clarification would be wonderfull as I am in the process of working a couple of deals on used boats and I really want a wakeboard specific hull. I am currently only looking at X Star and Maristar series MC's because want a deeper V hull and V drive. |

ATrain, Yes. The stock ballast will not be that big...MOST boats will not throw the wake people are looking for stock. But, if you load it up the wake grows nicely while remaining great shape.
Critrgitr, the way I look at it is...Yes, it is the XStar. But, the XStar of the early 2000's was the 205v hull (older x2, x1). Yes, the larger x series were Maristar hulls x10, x30 which, in MOST opinions, did not produce the best wake of the MC line.
Their Prostar hull has always been their tournament approved hull. It's not a 'ski' hull. The Maristar hull 'USED' to be always associated with a 'family' type ski boat...rode higher, cut through chop better, etc... Deeper V's were always associated with offshore type boats.
If you're looking at a XStar...no probs. I personally would have to water test any of the maristar lineup. |

O.K. I called a Mastercraft dealer and got the low down.
1998 - 2002 X Star and Maristar hulls are identical. The only difference is the graphics and interior accents (and of course the wakeboard accessories on the X star). The guy I talked to claimed that the X star/maristar hull is one of the best hulls ever designed for wakeboarding. He said that the new (2003 and up) X Star have the new "pickle fork" front end - this is possibly even a better wakeboarding hull than the older X Star. But, he also said that every person in the store that he works for, has chosen the old style (1998-2002) X Star for their personal boats. That comment speaks volumes to me.
Another point he told me is that one of the most popular new purchases is the new X2. The new X2 uses the same hull as the 1998-2002 X Star/Maristar. Again, pretty telling. |

That's the 2003-2005 X2, 2006 X1. _________________ PS- this is what part of the alphabet would look like if Q and R were eliminated.

You are correct.
The Mastercraft guy told me that the the newest X2 will be a scaled down version of the 2003 & up X star hull (pickle fork). |

It's rather unneccesarily complicated. The 2006 X2 should have been dubbed X1 so the X2 could just stay what it was. Oh, well. That boat does throw a great wake, though, if weighted properly (similar to a SAN, which has a perfect wake ) _________________ PS- this is what part of the alphabet would look like if Q and R were eliminated.

What dealer did you talk to?
1998-2002 XStar is a PROSTAR 205v hull. 20'7". There was no such Maristar that length.
Closest was the Maristar210..20'9"..but the beam was 5-10" wider.
Some truths...03XStar and up are 'pickle' fronts. People are still liking the 205v hull over the new pickle. It's REALLY tough to beat the double up wake on a pickle fork X though. |
