I'm just in the process of buying a new boat (With a friend)
My buddy thinks we should hold off on the stereo upgrades and just go with the basic stuff...then buy aftermarket stuff on our own and get it installed. He thinks we will find a better deal that way.
I was thinking maybe it's too much of a hassle to get all that installed after we get the boat....and I'm concerned about $$$ for the installation.

What do you guys think? Can we get more bang for our buck outside of the manufacturer or do the stereo upgrades offered from the dealership usually work just fine??

We are looking at the Mobius LSV, which has some boat show incentives (freebies) including speakers/amps...etc.

If you can get them free, then take them! Treat your boat buying experience just like you would treat a car buying experience! I would never just walk into a dealership, ask how much it is, then sign the finance papers....wheel and deal man! Get them to throw in free upgrades, if they don't tell them you already have another dealer ready to do so but that you wanted to keep the sales local.....work it!

That depends on what brand of boat you are buying and what type of standard equipment it has. MC for instance used JL audio as their standard equipment. Many people would love to have JL audio in their boat. Malibu is now using Kicker. Also nice, but until this year they were using sony crap as standard. You will always be able to purchase a sound system for yourself and install it and save money, but it is very convenient to have it installed by them and not have to hassle with it as long as its good stuff.
