We have about a 4 hour trip tommorow, and we were wondering if we should tow with the cover or not. It's a pretty tight fitting cover, but I sure would hate for it to flap in the wind in make the gel coat hazy, any advice??
Thanks-Ryan

| I had a custom, snap on, cover made. I'm not sure if it really is *that* bad of a thing to do but still, I don't like towing the boat with the winter cover on for just that reason.

| We towed our boat on like a 10 hour trip with the cover on, we had to because it was raining pretty hard. We have a custom cover and its pretty tight fitting so it worked well. If the weather is nice then don't tow with the cover on, but if its bad weather I don't think it would hurt to tow with the cover on.

| The only thing is if you have the straps that go one the trailer. They will rub against the hull and leave marks. Where are ya'll going?

I always tow our boat with a cover. Belive it or not but on one trip from the delaer to the boat launch we found 4 cig butts by the bow, and lots of sand.

We have a custom cover made for trailering on our boat. As long as it has tie-down to the trailer I'm sure you're okay.
Here's a pic of another cover my Dad's company made for a speed boat.

atxwake, i have an X-10 and in the winter we always tow with the cover on. In the summer we never tow with the cover. I have had the boat 2 years and I have no hazyness on my boat. If you want to play it safe tow with it off.

| On the straps that you attach to the trailer...after wrapping the straps around the trailer, put a couple of twists on the way up (like a rubber band would look like with twists) , before cinching them down. It definitely cuts down slapping of the strap against the gel coat.

OK, this may be totally stupid. I understand the straps flapping which can cause marks on the hull. But what 'haze' are we talking about?

I wouldn't tow with a cover unless you had a totally custom trick "tow cover" like Nor*Cal's pix. My buddy had one made for a Schiada and it ran him almost $2K. I have towed for years w/o a cover and never had a problem.

You will want a cover that is designed to tow with. Like the one below. It tightens all of the way around the boat and has soft hooks that hold it down too.

| The cover we have for our boat is like the one in Magic's picture, it works really well when you are towing.
