I want to be able to jump higher, but for some reason I just can't. I watch these videos of these guys getting massive air. I stand as tall as i can get off the wake, but I don't know what else to do. Here's a pic of the height I'm usually getting.

What type of boat is that? Looks like you may be turning, hense the washed out wake.
Anyhow.. Do you have a video? Possibly you are not holding the edge long enough? I have been holding my edge way longer, and have noticed a significant increase in my height.
Also, keep you handle at your hip, and pull it down a little when standing tall. Your handle position looks good, but a video would help us much more.

Vampyre, the direction it appears that he is turning would make the wake wash on the other side.
lostsparrow, It looks as though you need to speed up a lot. That wake looks really wide and washy. If you go faster, itll be a harder cleaner wake and youll have a lot more speed into the wake. It also appears that your weight distibution of your boat needs to be evened out. If you are turning left and the wake is washing out on the left you must have a TON of weight on the right side. It should be opposite wash. A video would help a lot.

most people that get the air ytou want are hitting double ups. But just try getting out and dont buckle your knees when you hit the wake, also try not cutting in as hard as you can.

an increase in edge hold up the wake is 90% of riders problems height off the wake. stand tall, or rigid at the wake with a longer edge hold will send you soaring. how high/far you want to go depends on how hard you edge/stand tall.

Nice pictures Ckilgor! When you say the angle, do you mean the angle between the water surface to the board or the angle of your edge when coming into the wake? Do I suppose to hold my edge all the way through the wake?
Also, when do I start to stand tall?

You need to use the edge of the board to cut through the wake and not ride up the face of it. The more severe the angle of the board the higher you go. Look at the top right image. You can see the flight path angle drawn off the front of the board. I guess the best way of explaining it is like this the more weight on the back of the board the sharper the angle. I am in no way suggesting that you transfer all your weight to the back of the board, it was just for explanation

| Thanks Ckligor! I think I get it now. So do you get more height if you edge in faster? Like a car going off a ramp?

| WAKENERD, its less about speed and more about tension on the rope.

Thanks for the advice!
I saw a pic of Keith Lyman on the wakeboarding mag showing how to edge. His butt almost touched the water. What i want to know is... does he keep his position this low all the way to the wake and take off or he will stand up before hitting the wake? If he does stand up, would he loose his tension on the rope? How do you keep such strong tension on the rope?

What I am getting at is, more technique = more consistency. Momentum will play a huge role once you have the technique.
Like a car going off a ramp? Some what, but what you need to remember is that if you flatten out and ride up the face of the wake you will never improve.

I am my not very experienced, but the best advice I can give is:
Stand tall at the wake, but keep the line tesion! If you keep the line tension that you built up during your progressive edge, you will automatically have to keep your edge through the wake. If you let off your edge, you loose line tension.
So, basically: Line Tension = Edge = Pop But stand tall to avoid absorbing the pop in your legs!

As many people have said, line tension is a good factor to building up speed to get height. What I have figured is that an aggressive edge will throw you out further but a slower edge with more technique will throw you higher. If you're on a non-stretch rope, come in with a nice progressive edge (cutting in harder and harder), even if you have a "stretchy" rope, it's a good habit to get into.
When you hit the wake, make sure to kind of straighten your legs right when you hit the foam and sort of do a "snowboard ollie" (this works for me).

that diagram that ckligor was a good one. If you keep the tension on the rope the whole way in, then when you are in the air, the tension is released and you go higher and further
