I have an old Ski Supreme that I would like to paint the top of. Does anyone have any experience in this? I have been looking around for paint, and I can't seem to find anything that really gives any specifics.
Any help is appreciated...

| I guess I am wondering what paint will hold up, everone makes a big deal about their gel coat, so I guess I assumed there was a detailed process to finding the right paint. |

2-part polyurethane would be the best choice.
it is from international/interlux.i,m sure there will be other good brands in the U.S. that you can use as long as it is a polyurethane you,ll be fine for the next 5 years.
If you keep your boat in the water during the high season i would apply a bottom coat because a painted hull(the part that is under water)will blister after a few months.
remove all hardware if possible that would give a better finish
Sand the boat with waterproof 600 degrease and watch out for any silicones.Any spidercracks will come back in time so repair them also all scratches etc.
Spraypainting would work best but if you are with 2 persons you could use a fine foam roller. The faster you work the longer the paint has time to flow for a glossy result.
my english isn,t so good cause i,m dutch...but i,ve been a painter for 23 years and i have painted many boats.
if you have any questions PM me,no problem.
good luck _________________ Waterskischool RiverSide |

Hey sooperspeed,
I think the top-of-the-line LP (linear polyurethane) is still AwlGrip. It is very difficult and expensive to apply...then there's Dupont's Imron, also LP but not quite as fussy (and not quite as durable)...those are the two I have experience with...
There are brushable versions and as riverside, says, roller then tip off with a brush - takes skill and patients - prep is EVERYTHING on a good paint job.
If you've not painted before, have a pro do it

This is true.when Riverside said spray painting, hes talking about with a gun not a bunch of spray paint cans.Prep is 90% of a paint job.painting is 10%. |

| I have a 1982 ski supreme. I work at an airport and came across some aircaft paint. emron or imron or jetglo I dont remember which one but they are all similar.I used it to spray my boat and got kick ass results!!! very durable and looks better than I ever expected. The only thing that sucks is that it is very slippery when wet!!! I have busted my ass a few times getting into the boat. |
