I have an 05' Moomba XLV. All the XLV's come with this cubby meant for a cooler. But since there is one built into the floor. We never used it.

So here is my thought. Make a mold of the area and design a custom subwoofer box like the JL stealth boxes. Covered in carpet. It would look completely factory. My going down firing the woofer itself wouldn't be exposed.

I think the area is about 16h x 18d x 24w

Yes? No?

yes it's been done, but I haven't seen it on an XLV. There was a guy making boxes for a nautique that are almost identical.

Great idea. Carpet matched, it would be killer.
Great place for it also.

I have two tens under my back seat and I've never had an issue with water gettign to them...and everyone steps right on top of them. Build it right and you'll have no issues.

Thats a big space (+3.0ft^2) if your measurements are correct. You could easily run a a pair of 12's there.

Make sure the box has a good coat of resin to waterproof it and it should last a long time. If you want to go even further, you can have it sprayed with bedliner. Most subs (automotive) use a poly or aluminum cone.... a little water won't hurt it as long as its sealed in a box.

just to be safe coat the box in a fiberglass resin and then put the carpet on. The fiberglass resin will make the box waterproof.
