| Has anyone ever tried putting their subwoofer, say... in the engine compartment? Probably sounds like a stupid idea but I dont think I can put it anywhere else. |

glemay, uhhhhhhhhhh no i don't think anybody has ever tried this... and i don't think anybody should ever try this... the heat in the engine compartment is not good for a subwoofer... what kind of boat do you have? you can get a sub enclosure built underneath the dash at your feet, I've seen that in many boats... _________________

You also might run into interference problems. I think you'd pick up all sorts of engine noise with your sub and sub wires in the proximity of the engine. I would be hesitant to try this, in addition to what logan said.
Maybe with a little more information about your setup people could help find a more suitable location. _________________ Riders Inc. |

Yeah, thats pretty much what i thought. Dumb idea. As for the boat, its a 2004 Bayliner 205. There doesnt seem to be much room if any behind the footwells, but im not sure. I cant see the boat right now as it is stored in a warehouse about 1 hour away, so can't get any pics. Any other suggestions?
Thanks |

My last boat had that problem. What I did was push the foot well out a bit to give me room for the box. But there was lot of room to move there too. In an I/O I'm not sure how much room you'd have, if any to do that. Are your footwells made of fiberglasss. What about just a box hidden in any compartment?
Pcitures would help for sure... _________________ Riders Inc. |

Here is the best pic of the footwell that i could find on the net. Its pretty big but its all open, so any thing i put down there would be showing quite a bit. And yes the footwells are fiberglass with wood panel or something up top. Its more of a fiberglass floor with a wooden (at least I think its wood) wall. I'm pretty sure I have access to the back of the footwell, but if I am correct there is not much room back there.
If there is anyone with a similar boat on the forum could you please post some pics if you have them. Like I said, the boat is located about an hour away.
This picture shows the biggest part of the interior.
Thanks |

You could have a custom enclosure made to fit the area to the right of the driver (free board area). On my mobius there are two gear lockers on each side of the engine where the ballast lives. That would work as well. You could also have a custom enclosure made that fits into one of the front lockers under the cushions, and have it vent into the boat area.
There are a lot of options. I suggest that you tow the boat (or take some pictures) to a reputible stereo place, and have them give you some ideas and cost. _________________ Board: 05 Hyperlite State 145

| Put it under the dash on the back wall. That should be strong enough and mount a box on the back. |

I built my sub enclosure on my 19' Bayliner to fit behind the dashbaord on the drivers side. It is in the area that is accessible from the bow, when you lift up the seat back cushion.
I made the box just perfect, in fact so well that I had to remove the entire dash and steering column to get the box in there good for potential thiefs (good luck!)
the sub fires upwards and the port fires at my feet. I used a cheapo Rockford series 1 woofer just in case it ever gets soaked, it sounds AWESOME, in fact I have alot more bass in the boat then I do in my trucks... |

LFADAM, no there is no factory sub option for the boat. So far im decided and will forget about the sub. I think I will just go with 4 good 6x9s. It will be much easier.
Thanks |
