I have a buddy that looking for a good used wakeboard boat. He has a budget of about 13K, and is currently looking at at 1993 Centurion with about 600 hours on it. This is a great boat, but it has a closed bow, so I am pushing him towards finding a boat with an open bow which in my opinion creates more comfort for occupants on board. What do you all think about closed bow boats, and are there any recommendations for a good place to buy a used wakeboard boat in Northern California?

this option is a problem faced my many inclufding myself....you should look at old excel V drives by correct craft some have open bows..older malibu euro's. mastercrafts dont really have an open bow boat in this range but maybe a 190. old supras (mirah) and some ski nautiques.....

check flipsell.com, usedboats.com boats.com and boattrader.com

Board2die, stop him!

That boat throws NO WAKE. It is a great slalom boat, but it won't make even a decent wakeboard boat.

Speaking from experience here - my buddy bought nearly the same boat, and within 1.5 years traded it in for a new v-drive.

There are lots of other choices out there. MC 205's, SN 2001's, some older Supras, etc.

Board2die, Supra Mariah's they made them from 88-96. Open bow, the later years have more back end rise so you can sack them out more.

I love mine, got it for 10. Then put a tower on it. All in all I am under 15 for my full investment.

Well you guys knew I was gonna put a pic. I love me boat too much. Mr. Green

Board2die, for reference, here is the "sacked out" wake on that Centurion:

Where is the wake? Is that a bass boat?

See if you can find a Malibu Echelon LX from 93 or 94. The LX has a True Open bow. This is also the First year malibu put out the sv23 haul which is the same on the previous generation VLX (now V-ride).

When sacked out the Echelon puts out a great wake. Only downs side is it is a lower profile boat.

chavez, what are you talking about that wake is huge. Very Happy

Older excels are nice, older supras are nice, but if i were tog et something in the 13k range, i would look for an older 205. The '93s are nice, and a few years later are nice (Correct me if im mistaken, but i belive its the same hull as the old xstar, current x-1)

The older supras are nice, but be carful on them, some lie extremely low in the water, and the bow slopes downwards, Great for rollers!. not.

With anything you get, take it for a ride, ride behind it, sac it out if you can. do everything possible before buying it, and youll be set.

Good Luck.

We had taken a look at some older sport nautiques, which carries on to be the San hull i believe,

There is a guy on my lake who has a supra just like haugys, and it throws a very respectable wake.

In my opinion, the best older direct drive wake I have ever riden was a late 90's supra launch. It was gargantuan, and very well shaped. The guy had it loaded with 4 sacks, internal ballast and 6 people.

Mobe789, I believe that the hull was changed in 96 and from then on it is the same as the x-whatever we are calling it now.
