Anyone heard whether the big three are going to up their internal ballast options up to the 2000LB range that MB sports has? And has amyone else started experimenting with the 2X Transmission idea?

Yeah, love the internal 2k lb ballast on the MB. Also the fill and empty take no time at all. No pumps either. I heard that the USCG would not certify (or whatever they do, approve or something) the boat however. Anyone else know about that?

Todd and Jim are right Calbria usese the vent system and MB does use pumps. Nothing is faster than Calbria's pure vent system that I know of. I'm not sure about the 2 speed tranny or the 2000 Lbs. ballast. I would like to wait a few years and see how things work out in the long run before paying 50K for unproven water technology. If it works out, great, more power to them. But if it fails and has issues....

Does the purevent still use sacs? or do they have actual compartments molded into the hull. That seems to me like it would be the best way to go, then you don't have to worry about sacs and fitting falling off or getting twisted up. Just make three big chambers and allow the water to flow into them through a large diameter pipe. Each chamber could be controlled independently with its own valve to control the amount of water. Then to drain it take the boat up to speed open the valve and it would suction the water out. Seems like a simple concept to me. If I was going to drop 50-70k for a boat I would want something fast and easy. I have a better balast plumbed into my 88 mastercraft than half the new boats do, but unfortunatly I have to use sacs cause I have no way to make comparments to hold the water in the hull.

Actual compartments molded into the hull. Both Calabria and MB Sport have these molded in ballast areas. Really a great idea. Pure Vert is just simple and therefore fool proof.

The ballast system on the Calabria is so simple to use its not funny one switch opens and closes the transom valves and the 4 tanks fill mine takes about 45 sec. to fill 15- 20 sec to drain. The best part is no bags no tanks to take up storage every thing is below the floor

This might sound kinda dumb, but, is 2000lbs enough for that boat? I just can't imagine a boat with enough factory ballast, that would be so nice!!!!!!

Malibu claims that there system, incuding the wedge 23, is equivalent to 1900 lbs. 900 tanks, 1000 wedge. Whether the 1000 lbs. claim is true or not is up to you.

Well, back to the USCG approval rating - there must be enough foam flotation in the boat to float the boat and all it's components, ballast, etc. Now, with all the MB below deck tanks, thus foam removed, does the boat float? I believe that's why Nautique and others (not sure who) haven't ventured down this path. The USCG rating is not required, but certainly nice if the boat does get swamped then won't sink.

If it was gravity fed, I guess you would have to balance the boat during the fill, otherwise, tanks would fill to same level right?

I wonder if you can put a shift kit on the MB and throw people out of your boat when you hit second gear?

i have a b52 with the 2100 lbs of ballast, and it takes forever to fill up....but it is well worth the wait. the wake behind that thing is by far the biggest cleanest wake from any stock boat i have ever seen.

I agree with Brent. The Wake is huge. As far as the paint scheme, the tribal flames are bad ass. It is by far the best looking boat on the market. Just ask any non biased person, take your own survey and see what you come up with.

I actually think that the tribal graphics don't look all that good, but that is just my opinion. I also think that the checkerd flag graphic don't look that good either. I mean, its not a race boat,so why whould you have checkerd flags all over the boat??

Btw, I do give them props for stepping up the ballast with the "triple up"system. However, that boat is 22ft with a width of 96inches and a draft of 26 inches. That = one big ass boat. There stock ballast is 2,100lbs which is the most offerd stock today, but thats not enough for that big of a boat. I havn't riden behind a 03 with the "triple up" ballast system,so I can't really pass judgement. But from the 02,the wake was a long ramp and pretty soft with some white wash on top(that was stock form). Could one of you describe the 03' wake for me??? Overall the 03's look like a very well built boat.

One more thing, how do you guys like the graphic on the sun platform. I think its alittle to much tribal.I think if they left that plain, the overall tribal graphics would look better on the hull!!!
