| it takes LOTS of dedication. imo it's the hardest of any sport. you have to be in peak physical condition to have endurance and also have strength to punch and keep your feet and your head moving the entire time. you have to be in peak mental condition to know what to do every time you get hit even during that second after you get hit hard and you're disoriented you have to be thinking where you need to be and what kind of counter you need to throw. it also takes lots of natural talent and coordination to be quick. to be competitive it would deffinately have to be a lifestyle. at an introductory level you will have to fight in tournaments and you either win or you get your ass beat hard. there is no middle ground when you fight 3 or 4 people a day, sometimes within a couple of hours of eachother. |

Boxing is really tough. You gotta work out for hours and hours before you can even get in the ring and start fighting. But I'm sure it would be really good for you in terms of strength and conditioning. If you belong to a fitness club, you might want to see if they have any classes so you can judge your level of fitness. Believe me, you can't just jump in the ring and start fighting. _________________ "I knew those girls were pros, but don't tell Turtle, it'll break his heart." - Drama, Entourage |

Yeah, but there are some rules and stuff you gotta follow, and it hurts like a biznatch when you get clocked in the face. _________________ "I knew those girls were pros, but don't tell Turtle, it'll break his heart." - Drama, Entourage |

oh for sure i dont disagree with any of that and i agree with whoever said it was the toughest sport to be ready for. I think more people could box though then play most sports if you get in the right shape though. _________________ Go Ducks

It sounds like you wanna do it, how tall are you and how much do you weigh? Do you think you have the muscle to box? Howabout the quickness? The stamina? _________________ "I knew those girls were pros, but don't tell Turtle, it'll break his heart." - Drama, Entourage |

Toughest? I dunno, Soccer seems pretty brutal I don't like the idea of boxing though, too limited in my opinion, then again it's the US, so many rules. _________________ Behind the boat house, I'll show you my DOCK SECRET

First off, I played soccer and our team won the state champs. In terms of the tougher sport, I'd say boxing cuz soccer is a team sport so you have someone to help you. In boxing, its just you and the other guy.
Wake, you should get a personal trainer or a workout-maniac friend to get u in shape. _________________ "I knew those girls were pros, but don't tell Turtle, it'll break his heart." - Drama, Entourage |

Hangovers, cant live with em, cant live without em.
I'm exactly the same way. during the spring i get fat and lazy, but then i get back into shape during the summer cuz of football. I think I might do track next year to help keep in shape and maybe make my fat ass move a little faster. _________________ "I knew those girls were pros, but don't tell Turtle, it'll break his heart." - Drama, Entourage |

When I was a kid, the dojo where I studdied martial arts had a boxing program as well. My parents would not let me fight, but I used to get in the ring and spar sometimes. I loved it. Very, very hard. Very, very tiring. I sometimes would rather get hit with a bare fist than with a boxing glove. The headache and nausea are terrible, and they seem to set in almost right away, and last for a long time.
The guys that trained as boxers there were the best athletes I have ever been around. I think that my mother was right, though, you kind of have to not put a huge premium on staying smart if you want to box for longer than a year or so.
If you read up on the mechanics of what happens inside your head when you get hit, you might not want to box so badly. Ultimately, that's what got me to stop arguing with my parents when I was 18.
Man, it was fun, though. And you can't get any more manly. _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide |

I'll blow my own horn a bit here.
I did KICK boxing for 4 years, doing a lot of junior tournaments in MA and NH after I got bored with martial arts. It takes more time and dedication than a horny teenager can muster. I was lucky, I had already grown up doing the martial arts stuff so it was a fairly easy transition.
The training is some of the most intense training you will endure, if you stick with it you will become a machine. Physically their won't be anything you wont be able to do and mentally you will be miles ahead of the kids you hang with. I have done all types of workouts and sports and specific workouts for specific sports, nothing will get you in better shape than a Boxers training program.
Nothing better than seeing a little skinny boxer guy smack the stuff out of Joe muscle head.
I'm 32 now and can honestly say I'm in the shape I am now not only because of my current active life style but for the fact I was at one time in the best shape my body could possibly be in at the age of 21.

It's way more tiring than one would think and definetly has a large mental aspect to it. Although I've never been in a sanctioned boxing match, I have a bunch friends who have gloves and we've had some large get togethers just to duke it out....We've been doing this since high school.....no grudge or anything, just good, clean, try and knock your buddy on his ass, fun! oh yeah, beer helps _________________ www.MidwestMilitia.net |

Iv'e been training for about a year. A mix of shoot wrestling, boxing, and jiujitziu (spelling). I competed in January in an Extreme fighting match, basically like ultimate fighting. The training would literally leave me puking form exhaustion and splitting headaches every night we sparred. My nose has been broken two or three times. But it was well worth it to get to raise my hand in the air after winning my match. Best feeling in the world. I would have to say this sport is a bit tougher than boxing and alot more painful. We use six ounce bag gloves when we fight. Basically they just keep our hands from breaking on peoples faces. And the submissions can get pretty painful too, especially if you don't tap quick enough you can end up with shattered arms and legs. This sport is truly only for the tough or really crazy. _________________ jt09 wrote:
