Which are the loudest tower speakers?
I want to be able to hear the music when i'm riding.
Maybe concert type speakers.
Anyone got any ideas?
I know you gotta have a powerful amp.
Let me see pictures too........
Thanks,
Andrew |

You'll be able to hear pretty much any tower speaker. Just make sure you have a strong enough amp to power them.
The whole point of the speakers is to hear them _________________

Sorry ,I need to chime in on this one and call b.s.There are a lot of setups out that with wind and exhaust you cant hear while riding. I mean really hear. Most sound like a transistor radio at any distance and speed. These posts where the owner states "I installed 2- 6" ...on my tower and they sound great". once again, b.s. I know because I was in the same boat as these other guys. On my tower I had 6 6" MB Quart with 175 watt rms to each one and I could barely make out every other word while riding but they sounded great in the boat. Now the boxes from ...that have 6 6X9 speakers are better. You can hear them while riding but you hear mostly highs and some mids.
Back to your question. Which are the loudest tower speakers?.NVS hands down are the loudest speakers on the market. They are also sound very clean at the rider. But after all isn't that why we have tower speakers?. For the rider. The #2 speakers are not even close. Blow out your ear drums loud. They are not loud in the boat in fact with a bemini up the driver and passenger can have a normal conversation while the rider needs to strap on a plasma bag from the loss of blood coming out his ears. Yes they are that loud.NVS puts the sound at the rider and beyound.Miles beyond. You may say I am bias because I have NVS speakers. well that's how I know. But don't just take my word for it. Do a search and type in NVS.%100 satisfied customers. I had mine for a year and a half and still going strong and I like my music loud. When its right.
And that brings up another point. We have the equipment to rock the whole lake but it wont be long before we start seeing laws about tower speakers. So andrew05style, If you go with NVS and that is what I highly recommend then use them where you wont piss of every one around you. Of course unless they are fishermen. M.
Here is the web site for NVS. Enjoy. http://www.nvs1.net/NVS%20Speakers.htm |

On NVS having been brought up, I am becoming more and more interested in them. Our two JL's on the tower aren't cuttin it for riding, although one is shot, but if I faded them really damn loud could they blow? Would two more make much of a difference?
Also, are the Entity 1010s that much louder than the smaller Entities? |

Volume wise..you'd proabbly need a db meter to notice any significant differemce...wher eyou would be able to tell a little is out at the rider.....you will get a fuller sound. the lower frequencies will travel further with the 10's vs 8's that just physics.
I'm an NVS owner as well, hands down best tower investment I coudl have made. Case and point.....you will have guys with 4 6x9's (very loud) jaws drop when you come up next to them and there music becomes overpowered by yours. I have yet to hear anything close to as loud as mine. I was just at an event with approx 20 other boats...some with very large systems...not one coudl compete on volume...a few came close on bass |

man i have 4 MB Quartz Discuss up top and i can hear them good at 75 ft. Now the NVS speakers, I have a buddy running them and they kill mine, hands down the loudest clearest. They rock, but be carefull of the laws coming, they can here you across the lake. _________________ Chris H.

I just recently rode behind Duane's (the owner of NVS) boat and I must say that those things are CRAZY loud. I have been in a lot of boats with tower speakers and nothing has yet to come even close. I would say if you are a skeptic, simply ride behind someone who has them before you make a purchase.
I doubt you will find a used set of defcons (they just started producing them) unless someone is upgrading to the nvs' . _________________ Hold up....Wait a minute.... Let me put some pimpin in it! mmmmph |

| I will also chime in that NVS are in a league of their own. They seem more directional and get the sound out to the rider better than standard car audio speakers. You might pay the price in weight compared to other set-ups so be prepared to have 60-80 lbs on the tower. |

gene3x,
Since you appear to be in the Lewisville area, go to AutoSound & Security 1322 S. Hiway 121 and check them out yourself. I believe they carry both products. 972-219-9771 Ask for Dan or Joey.
D out
PS, horrid profile pic but like the crossed fingers. |

We have them on the SAN and they are number 1 by a lake length. The only down part to them, without discussing price, is how power hungry they are. And like someone mentioned, one can actually speak with someone else while on the boat with them cranked up, and the rider is going to get an ear full. Def worth the penny. _________________

Ok got the Defcon IV's How much power do they actually need? If I run a 5 channel Kicker amp will around 100 a side RMS do the trick? _________________ My therapist says it is all your fault. |

| website says 200 RMS......they need more than 100, but it also says the speakers are wired to 2ohms.......if the amp will run 200 in 2ohms you should be fine. |

Thanks for the input man. I am looking at trying to consolidate space by using less amps. _________________ My therapist says it is all your fault. |

No I actually bought them from a guy on here that was looking to sell because he sold his boat. I got a great deal on them but my total system install is going to be a biotch. You know anything about stereo installs? We got out to Lewisville yesterday though I couldn't do much with me screwed up back. Looks like the last warm day for awhile! _________________ My therapist says it is all your fault. |

i'm gonna have to start keeping my eyes open for some good deals round here. I'm definitely hoping to find some good deals at the Dallas boat show at the end of Jan. I've got bose 151's on my tower now and i don't think they are gonna cut it anymore...especially with everyone going with NVS and Defcon oh and i think you're right about the last cold day...supposed to be a high in the 30's on wed with possible snow flurries!! |
