yea, we had this topic before but cruising behind a 70 foot boat that does 23 knots in 23 knots of breeze is sweet.

Looks like it could be fun but tying to pick them up after they fell would be a challenge.

thats sick... those Americas Cup sail boats are a piece of work!
that public release is stupid though cuz I remember seeing a letter to WBM like last year from a Liquid Force German rider who was invited to come ride behind the same kind of boat... there was a photo and all

The new Volvo 70's are absolutely insane. Those boats go a lot faster than 23 though, I think it was "Pirates of the Carribean" that bent their pulpit going through a 8ft wave at 34knts .
http://www.wetasschronicles.com/EricssonFinisterre.mpg That's a link to a video of one of them. I wasn't on that boat for that ride but at one of their practice sea trials I went out and practiced with them. Those boats are freakin scary to ride in.
I seriously doubt that those pics are real. Look in the first pic at where the line leads. It's pointing to the 4th set of spreaders. When that boat tacked/jybed the pull point for the rider would move aroung 20ft. And also look at the different angles that the line leads to. In the first pic its a way higher pull point than in the raley pic.

the people who race those things are pors. they can turn that baot aroun pull up right next to the skier and stop no problem. now trin to cut a double up might be a little trickier.

That boat weighs over 10000lbs. They are designed to be distance races, not around the bouys, so they down handle too awesome. However they are fast as shizz. Stopping doesn't just happen when they want it to, like I said, the boat weighs 10 tons. At 30knts that's alot of momentum. There's no way that those things just stop. That just doesn't happen.

BTW,
What's the guy on the stern in the yellow jacket doing? Either setting up the leeward runner or peeing?

Check your math dude. 1 ton = 2000 lbs so a 10,000 lb boat would only weigh 5 tons.
|
Haha, sorry. I failed my math final last year.

if you ease out all the way on the main you lose power. and a 5 ton boat does carry alot of momentem(sp), but sailoats are not planing hulls, they push water out of the way. if your goin 35 knts in you ski boat and pullit into neutral, it doesnt stop on a dime but its not like you keep goin another mile. all they would have to do is just figure the right time to stop so when they finnish driftin they are right there

| ok stop your bickering im british and i race for volvo sailboats. Im the one in the black shirt in the first pic. when the rider fell we sent the boats helicopter to go and get him. We then strategically lined up another rope attatched to both the helicopter and main mast of the sail and on three he detached the rope from the chopper and bam was up and ridin again.
