I currently ride a 2000 LF Trip 143 with the center fins removed and '02(?) LF Ultra Suc bindings.
I picked it up at the beginning of this season and it has been my first real wakeboard. I started on a O'Brien Freestyle with sandal bindings I got back in like '96 or '97. i Upgraded the bindings to CWB Techno Comps on 2000.
I was a half rider. I would jump and crash every time. Untill last summer when i was able to clear the wake and grab and stuff.
I decided that this summer i was gonna try harder, so I picked up the board and started to progress. we went out 3-4 times a week and rode 3-4 sets each time. I am very confident when up, I can nail w2w and ts w2w with a variety of grabs. I am very close to landing a TS front roll and am working on 3's. havent landed them yet.
I ride at 20-21ish and 65ish feet out. I can easily clear into the flats. I tried riding further out, but it took soo much effort to make it across i was off balance very easily. and our wake is not consistant back further.
What boards should I look at as a next step to the Trip?
I already picked up some 05 LF Team bindings..
I have looked up stuff about the Parks,Subjekt, PS3, and the Team. I was originally going to buy a team 139 but have not been able to find one discounted for the end of season.
I need somehting a little faster, the trip 143 is waay to big for me. it is sloow and hard to spin on the water and in the air. i can feel the air dragging on the board when im in the air. I am 160 and 6'1".
i would like a board that goes up vs. out and that is loose when neutral but when on edge is very firm. i have heard the parks is not consistant on edge. I do not want a board that will cause me to become frustrated at the way it rides. i have read about some that are hard to ride "easy".
I am totally open to opinions so i have a better idea what i need to look for, demo, and buy.
Thanks, Kyle

It has been said many times before: really try and DEMO as many boards as you can and see what you like the best.

At 6'1" 160 a 143 is not "waay to[o] big" for you. Unless you've ridden smaller boards and like them I'd stick to something close to that size. I'm about your size and every year I try to go smaller but always end up on somthing over 140. I'm not saying you can't go smaller, clearly you can at 160. I just wouldn't throw down for a shorter board until you've ridden that size and know you like it. The same goes for a "up vs. out" board. All the boards you've ridden are continuous. If you're comfortable on that there's no reason to switch to a three-stage. A continuous board is going to be more consistant, thereby making progression easier. Don't think you can't go big on a continuous rocker. Murray and Shapiro have been doing it for years. All that being said, I'd check out a Team or Omega from LF, Hyperlite's Murray or 3DS or an O'Brien Demented.

ok. so the team is similar to the trip but has more rocker. I rode a CWB Flame 140 and it was very difficult for me to ride, both with the fins and with them removed. I know it is 3 stage.
Honestly, I would be happy with a trip 138, as i love the way the 143 feels, it just feels too big.
I just dont want to buy a board that is becomming obsolete.
is anyone pulling big tricks riding a trip?
I could care less what board a pro rides, as i am not a pro and dont care of it says their name on it.
a local shop here has a 05 trip 138, as well as a team 143 and a substance 138 and an omega 139 all discounted so they can get ready for the 06.

Kyle--
I rode a Trip 138 for the last several years and loved it, as I recently switched to the Marius just this week. The board will definitely not hold you down when it comes to landing new tricks. I landed many-o-first on my Trip. I find it interesting that you say it's slow, as I have always felt the Trip rides pretty quick, especially when compared to the majority of 3-stage boards on the market.
If you like the Trip, you will love the Team. The Team is a lighter, quicker board that shares a similar mold w/the Trip. Though I don't think the 143 is too big, you may find the 139 Team to be a perfect fit for you. I remeber Wakeside selling it for $250 as of last month. It can't be said enough, however, demo all you can until you find the right fit.
Peace be the journey!

| Kyle- i ride the trip 138. I havnt had a whole lot of experience 2 years ago rode about 4 times the whole year and this past year rode about 10 times as a buddy of mine got a boat the week before i had to leave before school. I have the same thoughts as you in terms of upgrading. In that last week i landed my first backroll, i am not sure if that is considered a BIG trick. Just put my two cents in. I was sorta thinking about a 3 stage as i am looking for the straight up pop, but as i read this post i am questioning myself. let me know if i can help ya with anything

i read that 3stage = distance vs continious = height.
Im going to ride tomorrow with my new bindings and a little different stance. and im going with some riders that are decent (i will be the crappy rider in the boat) so ill be able to get some feedback on my style and see what they ride.

Kyle, you've got it backwards, 3stage is up, cont is out. Also, continous boards will generally be faster than a 3 stage, so finding a board faster than the trip with more of a straight up pop might be difficult. The trip really is a solid board, it might be a tad too big for you but you should still be able to progress a lot with that board. So...basically, you don't need a new board unless you just want one. The team won't be dramatically different from the trip so why get a board that rides just like the one you have. If you still want one demo these -> 3 popular boards: for LF try the substance, hyperlite try Byerly, cwb try abs platinum.

teams are great. except that i ended up with a set that had mismatched footbeds, so i wet back and they took care of me, i even upgraded to the "LE" version. So im gonna ride those on sat.
the only complaint i have is the strings get wrapped up when trying to get them off. im gonna shorten them so thats not as big of an issue.

ok rode the teams. I think i had the best set this season today. the landings are super soft. i keep the bottom laces tight, but the upper ones are a little looser to allow some flex. not once did the board feel like it was going to come off, but i didnt catch any edges or fall really hard. they feel a tad heavy, but i was unable to notice it when riding, they are infinately better than the old ultra sucs i had before. my only complaint is the plastic thing that holds the lace tight, im not sure how that might hold up. but if htey dont break in a year, then they should last...
i widened the stance on my current trip, and it was much easier to ride and i felt much more comfortable.
