Just messing around I've hit 40 mph on a wakeboard and a wakeskate (no tricks at that speed of course).

Just a public relations press release... if you read closely it says fastest behind a specific kind of sailboat, not in general.

We had a dam to dam race here in Austin and the average speed on a wakeboard for the winning group was like 35 mph Shocked Shocked

In the summer at our slider park we'd whip people around corners on the seadoo - once you got going straight again you'd have to gun it up into the 40s to catch up to the rider. I think I had one kid hit 48 or so. It was quick.

Before we had perfect pass, there were MANY times that I was riding at 30mph+
Used to make for entertaining screaming matches with the driver(s).

Fastest wakeboarder ever behind a sailboat!

That's some pretty important stuff!

I think it's safe to say most wakeboarding doesn't occur anywhere near sailboats, let alone cup racers, who aren't happy until the prevailing wind speed reaches about 30 mph.

Plus I think the guy in my Avatar is going faster!

Where I could deffintly see that doing that would be really fun, intresting and the whole bit. But, it just shouldn't be "news" to the wakeboard world. People have ridin a lot faster, behind bigger boats and probably higher tows.

I havn't ridin behind anything bigger or higher, but i have for sure gone faster. Ealier this year I caught my back edge on a roam behind a jet ski going 65mph. (we were trying to see how far we could whip eachother) But I didn't send it in and try to get some Genuis Book record, wakeboarding isn't about speed last time I checked.

You may want to check your facts there. The AC get's canceled if the prevailing wind is over 18knts. At least that's the way the NZ'ers set it up. The swiss may do it differently. I believe the wakeboaring thing was supposed to be behind a trimaran. That changes things alot...

24 knots was the cut off. Wish it was 18 knots our boat might have held together a bit better.

its like when they posted that longest slider contest in england. no one even made it half way across the thing. if you let shane, parks or harf hit it, they would have backlipped the whole slider and set a "record"

I'll defer to your cup knowledge!

I just think that whole news article is riduculous.

Get one of those offshore boats out of discovery Bay over to victoria or grant line on a glassy morning and we'll get a true speed record. I'm just trying to think who would be crazy enough around here to go for it.

I totally agree. That is not news. It's just dumb and what wakeboarder would actually care about that?

You follow sailing? Nice... I had thought that you guys set the cut off at 18 or so? That's why our designer's (as usual) fvcked up by making a boat that could sail in heavy air. Same thing that happened with Stars and Stripes. I hyad thought it was a load bearing issue that made your boat hehe... break last year? Don't have to worry about that anymore with the new composite rigging rules and tech.

I remember reading about 3 or 4 years ago in an Alliance magazine that Shaun Murray was being clocked at over 90 mph behind a sea doo being whipped around turns. And that article title is very misleading.

Enzoborder230,
blind5 (Rob) doesn't talk much stuff...

I haven't met him, but he is probably the best wakeboarder in AL.
