I found a killer deal on a 05 Hyperlite Byerly 137. I weigh around 170-180 and I was wondering if this board will work for me. I looked up the board on boardstop and it said the weight range was "140 and up" I guess that means it'll work?

It will work, but it's ride is unique and you might not like it. Depending on your skill level, it might not be the best choice. I know from experience, because I was in the same boat as you. I got a smokin' deal on an 04' so I bought and learned to ride on that. The Edges are a killer on that board. There is NO forgiveness for a beginner. It is also a "slow" board. IMO I would have progressed further and faster on a different board as a beginner.

I agree with Joe, the Byerly is kind of a love it or hate it deck. If this is your first or second board you might want to check out something a little more forgiving and universal maybe a premier or a murray if your diggin the hyperlite a balance or a team if ya like the lf.

I like my 05 byerly, from what I've experienced it rides very stable in choppy water. But it is a bit of a slow board. I think the old byerly model is better because it has the same great pop but it is faster and a little smoother off the wake. Definately DEMO it before you buy it. Also there are some grat deals on the 05 Byerly on ebay just to let you know.

I found a great deal on the byerly as well. was riding the "state" model for a while
then grew out of it. once i started landing 360's i decided it was timw for a new
board. found a 142 '05 byerly at sports chalet for $260. never demo'ed though.
it was a wild hair buy. i figure every board will have its pros and cons and its just
a matter of learning that boards characteristics. nickdakoolkat, how is it a slow board?

joedirt00, you and me alike brother. I learned on an 04, but I must say that with it I progressed alot more than I thought I would. I liked its stability and the speed was slow enough so that I had good time to anticipate and hit the wake.

windman, In case you didnt know, the rocker is what makes the board slow or fast, along with different types of tips/tails, and channels through the board. The reason the Byerly is a "slow" board is because of the HUGE flat spot in the bottom. Correct me if Im wrong, but I was told it was somewhere around 13 inches. (or maybe that was something else) Anyways its got a big 3 stage punch. Since its flat on the bottom, it "plows" through the water instead of gliding on the surface like a continuous board would.

windman, stay with the state, you shouldn't feel like you have outgrown it, it's a really nice board. to me, it feels a lot like the old premier heelside, and toeside, well, i don't know i like it (although i don't ride it)

I bought my 04 Byerly cause I got a great deal as well, and I love it. Don't know how it hurt/helped my riding, because my riding isn't much to speak of anyways. Huge pop though, and it does teach you how to ride on the rails as opposed to fins.

That is the best advice I have heard all day... Look for the cheapest price before you buy? It takes a real thinking man to come to this conclusion. All this time, people were just buying a board without any research on the going prices... Someone, get this man a medal. In my book, you get a huge gold STAR*.

It took a real "thinking man" to come up with that BS.

Now back to the topic. I have been riding the Byerly's since he came to hyperlite. Yes they are a little slower boards, but I love the pop and the way they stick on the landings. One of the first boards I rode that I liked from the first time out. I currently have the 05 142 and at first I had trouble getting across on the toe side but with a little time on it, I am going bigger than ever.

My only complaint is that sometimes when I am going for a tail grab or slob, and miss, there are some sharp corners to hit your fingers on.

intotheflats, my comment to you was sheer comic genius. You know, say that you look like that guy, that is mentally handicapped, from the hit late 90's movie, Theres Something About Mary. I am not to blame if you took it as a personal attack on to you. For what I have said, I am not sorry.

If you have to explain the joke, it is far from comic genius.

Blake, Nothing I can say will make you look like a bigger moron than your last couple posts. So I am done posting in this thread. As a final thought, I would suggest maybe getting some ginko, it will help process your thoughts a little better and you won't have to explain why your posts are funny. Good luck finding some wit.

This isn't turning out very good.... Hahah instead of arguing just cut the crap and give this poor kid an answer.

A 137 would work for about up to 180 I believe. Dad (205 lbs) has no problem on our 137 O'Brien Diesel, so it should do the trick if you aren't too hardcore Wink

You're not an internet "meany", you're just a douche. (Being a "Meany" might require some humor and wit, neither of which you have.)
