|
|
| I am getting ready to winterize my Sunsport in the next week or two and this will be the first time I've winterized it. It has the Ford 351 PCM motor and I was just wondering if anyone familiar with this motor could give me some guidencess on all the plugs that need to come out and where they are located. Also, I haven't found out where the impeller is located either so any help on this would be appreciated as well. Thanks in advance. |

There's going to be a plug on the back of each manifold that needs to come out to empty them. There should be a plug on each side of the engine below the spark plugs that need to come out to drain the block. Implellar is located in the front of the raw water pump.
This is a pretty generic explanation, but should be just about right. |

Theres a plug on the J shaped portion of your impellar housing as well. Be careful taking the plugs out of the manifolds, they are usually lodged in there pretty good and if you strip them your in a bit of a mess. _________________ www.midwestmastercraft.com

jroth142, This is what we did with our Supra for the entire 14 yrs we had her. Kept her on a covered lift all year too.
Pull the boat outta the water. Pull off the impeller. It's on the lower left hand side of the front of the motor. It has a big J-pipe under it. Pull this and open up the main housing to remove the impellar. You'll understand why in a bit.
Then once it's pulled, crank your motor up, and let it run for about a minute and a half. Don't worry, it's liquid cooled, but running for such a short time is okay, but if you run it with your impeller in, it will burn up your impeller in seconds.
Make sure the motor got good and warm, you don't have to rev it or anything like a jet ski, just let it run and get hot. Once you've done this, disconnect the cooling hoses on the front. Now remove the spark plugs, spray some WD-40 down into each hole, and place cloth, not paper towels!!! into the holes. This will allow air in there, but won't cause it to rust up or anything.
You're done.
You can opt to take out the rear exhaust plugs, but it's really a waste of effort. If you ran your motor, most of the water is out, and the heat will help evaporate any more excess. If for some wacky reason your block has some moisture left in them, that's what freeze plugs on the block are for. In case ice forms, the plugs will pop out and not crack the block. $15 to replace freeze plugs. $100 for rethreading the exhaust manifolds.
Good luck. |
