Craiger

Thats a pretty bold statement EH!

Where were you on Feb/24 2002. Do you know what that day is even? Im sure you do being such a superior HOCKEY FAN.

BTW look at the % of Canadians to US players in the NHL. So your statement might be true but it has been Canadian players playing in US cities that win Stanley Cup! Puppy Eyes

Good call brad, it's kinda tragic how all the awesome canucks get swept down south to the highest bidder while the second rate americans come north. I suppose it's not that bad, I just wish my Flames WOULD MAKE THE PLAY-OFFS!!!!!!!

That aint stoping my Van. Canucks this year though....GO CANUCKS GO!

Brad,

Yes, I remember that day. I don't think there has ever been a sports team that had the kind of pressure the Canadiens had on their shoulders for that tournament. They had no choice BUT to win, (it had been a while for them before that, right?).

We all know Canadiens produce more hockey players than any other nation, but dont say they are the only ones winning the cup for their respective teams. Your saying Dominik Hasek, Chris Chelios, and Niklas Lidstrom had nothing to do with it last year? Or Mike Modano, Brett Hull, and Derian Hatcher the year the Stars won it? What about Forsberg, Drury and Hedjuk for the Avs? Of course there are Canadiens on those teams that helped, but don't make it sound like it was ALL Canada players.

Hasek did real well in Buffalo, when he had no team in front of him.

If Canada = Hockey, then how come the team that one the President's Trophy can't even draw enough fans to support the team. Bankrupt!!!!
Yeah, Canada may produce some of the top players, but look at the pool they are drawing from. Everyone in Canada is given a hockey stick when they turn 1, boy or girl. It's a numbers game, of course there'll be some good players coming out of the North. What amazes me is why every Canadien NHL Player can't wait to get out of Canada. Maybe it's the fact that Canadien teams don't win Cups anymore. This year will be no different.

Prediction, the Stanley Cup Finals will be the Western Conference Finals between the Wings and the Stars. Winner takes it all as we can all agree the East is a joke. Think if the Stars or the Wings were in the East, they would have like 130 points. That's just the way it is.

Okay, let's hear it, what ya got?

Hey Hey Hey there BigTimer just because the Sens dont got no money doesent mean they cant win. And the reason the wings are so good. Take a look at the roster. Humm... Canada, Canada, oh a russian, look another Canadian. Get my drift? And I was wondering just whick team did Canada beat to get some gold medals. Someone tell me, I think I just forgot. Twisted Evil Just because you guys are gonna win the war (good job there) doesent mean that you'll win the cup!

Ok, I just did a count of the Wing's roster:

13 Canadians
4 Russians
3 Swedes
2 Americans
1 American/Canadian (Hull, didn't know how to classify him)
1 Chech

Just a note, many (if not most) of the Canadians have dual citizenship. Why is all this such a big deal? I would think Canadians would be proud there game is spreading, and happy that America is interested.

You got me so far off of my original thought. Anyway, I live in Michigan, I am a huge Red Wings fan, and my pick to win the Cup is the Wings. That's all I was trying to say.

BTW, I love how Cruel World refers to Canada as Canada, and the United States as AMERICA. That's great, EH? Canada's not in North America anymore. Us yanks...

But, you do have to agree on the West vs. East thing. No one can dispute that. It's like NHL vs. Juniors.

I am getting so sick of this f'n snow. I want to ride.

Later...

I am glad the game is spreading. I guess the only reason it makes me bitter is that the American teams can afford to buy the good players and our Canadian teams cannot. It is a game of numbers and our Canadian teams simply aint got those numbers. It sure isn't gonna stop me from cheering for them....

BigTimer, what the heck?!??!?! u actually believe that? there's no way colorado's getting upset. they're on fire right now. the only way that the wild will win is if forsberg, sakic, tanguay, black, hejduk and roy all get injured or suspended. there's no way that the wild will win

Geoff you made a good point there. Sadly the states is where all the money is and the best way for an athlete to get rich is playing for an american team. But at least wakeboarding hasnt gone the way of everyother sport that I can think of.

Geoff, it is a major bummer what's happening to Canadian teams. At least Canadians can be proud of the hockey heritage. I think most would agree that no other sport has the same "code" of respect and class that hockey has. It's changing some, but I hope that aspect of respect and class doesn't change too much.

quigglymaster, The Red Wings have been damn hot too. 19-3-1-2 in the last 25. Not that the regular seasons means much!

Brad - You gotta LOVE last night's game!! DAYUMMMM! I don't follow either team (I am a Stars and Bruins guy myself), but I turned it on in the third and couldn't turn it off! That game is why the NHL is the best pro sport and why there is no better professional competition than the NHL Playoffs. Those guys SELL OUT on EVERY SINGLE PLAY!!!!

Crual World - Totally agree about hockey's code and respect factor - unmatched in professional athletics. You may have spoken too soon about the Dead Wings though...and I couldn't be happier!!! Death to the Wings!!!

jt09,

Please stop. Dead Wings! Very Original. Just messing with you. Very Happy

And I think you are right I spoke too soon, who knew? You never know they may win 4 in a row. Giguere is pretty impressive. Oh well, now I won't have to decide between Wakeboarding or watching the Wings.

Cruel World - Maybe not the most original, but I just HATE those guys! I wouldn't have so much anger when seeing Red, except that they (or the Avs) always seem to end my Stars season! My hatred is born out of respect - that is an incredible organization and an awesome team.

I posted earlier about my trip to Detroit in November...Joe Louis Arena was an impressive sight - I even had a blast being the enemy! We also hit Michigan vs. Michigan State at the Big House on Saturday and the Cowboys vs. Lions at Ford Field on Sunday morning (Ford Field is AWESOME!) before the Stars-Red Wings game. Damn good weekend, excluding the non existant nightlife in the greater Detroit area.

jt09,

I understand your hatred, I kinda feel the same about the Stars and especially the Avalanche. Actually, I love watching the Wings and Stars play, usually very intense.

Ford Field is awesome. It would be nice if it had a football team to play there.

Detroit has tons of nightlife, you just have to know where to look. It's not a tourist/out of towner friendly city though.

Oh, and about your unoriginal Dead Wings comment, I have used it many times. It's a real love-hate thing with the Wings. Very Happy

Brad - Looks like that was probably best for all involved. As a fan of the game, I hope Mogilny comes back strong. That was scary seeing him wobble off the ice the other night. Looks like he will play tonight.

Cruel World - Giguere is just what you don't want to face in the playoffs...a red hot goalie standing on his head! I always hated the Ducks just because of their stupid f*ing name, but I am cheering them on in this time!

You'll have a team in Ford Field in no time. Harrington is the real deal and Mooch will get those guys playing together real soon. You gotta love Shaun Rogers too (UT ex)...he was one of my favorite guys in college, always reminded me of Leon Lett, but without the drugs.

Best place we went in Detroit was a titty bar out by the airport - one of the best I have ever been too. The tailgate for the UM-MSU game was a classic as well...opened the first beer at 7:45 in the morning and went about 18 hours strong that day!
