Will a Glastron GX185 (or any Glastron) produce a good wake?

I don't have the money for a wakeboarding boat so I will have to improvise with an IO, I like the look of Glastrons, will they produce a decent wake when weighted? I Plan on adding a tower too.

It sounds like you haven't purchased the boat yet?! Shop for a good used comp boat and trick it out.

my friend has a glastron, I saw a video of a kid landing a wirly 5 and a w2w 9 behind it so i think that they will at least through an ok wake.

I think the general answer is no, if you are trying a achieve an inboard wake. I started boarding from a 17 ft. glastron with fat sacs and high pole. I agree, you should get a used inboard, even a 1990 or whatever year 2001 or mc 190 will have better wake then the glastron.

i think glastrons are poop.
that is my opinion, they seem cheaply made. doubt they would last long. You always see a lot for sale.
if you have to get a i/o get a mariah or a phantom (sp?)
i think they are better boats than a glastron.

how much is the glastron?? i got my 1994 prostar with a tower and 4 blade prop and new interior for 14,700.

lyte.... my parents purchased a glastron (against my will) and so far the quality of it is very good. It has held up well, for the 3 years we have had it. The only problem we have had have been engine problems, completly unrealated to glastron themself. However i do agree buy a used comp boat.

I never heard any complaints about glastron boats. I had mine from like 1996 to 2000 and it was a 1978 hull. My wife still wishes we had that boat.

You got a boat from the P's, that's the best deal out there. Fill it up and enjoy until you have another option. There was a time when the biggest worry I had in life was how I was going to scrounge up another $20 for gas in the boat - sure do miss those days Twisted Evil

another boat you might want to look into if you cant afford a new comp. boat or you dont want a used being there is no warrenty.....my best freind from high school bought a rinker and man the graphics are nice the inside is sweet the wake is nice with the right amount of weight and if you put it in the right spots and he got it full loaded with a 3 year motor and electrical warrenty and a lifetime hull for only 18,000

I used to ride behind an i/o Glastron occasionally. With a few people, a Skylon, and a fat sac it was a pretty sweet ride. My friend even stuck his first tantrum behind that boat. But, I'd take an 80s Nautique 2001 over a new Glastron any day.

what are you guys talking about, i have a 93 glastron, it pushes out a good wake if you get 4 guys in it, and a full tank of gas helps, even without people in it, it has a good wake. they are not made crappy, we have not had any problems with it, A new comp boat would be great but you have to make do with what you got.

My friend has a 17ft glastron 98model, my boat wake kills his, his is about 12" - 14" max with sacs and trimmed out.....Glastron is a light boat, but built hella good, he hit a floating tree and it did nothing to the hull.....I don't think you will be happy with the wake.....sure any rider who is talented enough can pull just about anything behing just about any wake, question is do you want to struggle.....I would look into something else if it were me

weve got a 97 and i weight the stuff outta it and the wake is almost up to my knees and im 6'1 or 2 and were adding a pylon this summer

i can over rotate tantrums behind it easily just failed to land any

personally if your starting out and no way you can afford anything else its notn that bad of a boat its built well we havent had any problems other then bilage pump

I had a friend who used to have a Glastron with a tower...seen people pull off every trick they would normally pull off behind a "wakeboarding" boat...

There are too many people here that bash like every non-specific wakeboard boat they hear about. Some people would rather get a decent new boat rather than get an 8-year-old inboard for about the same place. I dont think the boat matters as much as everyone thinks. Sure its awesome to ride behind a SAN or a VLX but just because you have an expensive boat doesnt mean your a good wakeboarder... Laughing

I have a 2001 Glastron GX225, and we absolutely love the boat. Genmar owns Glastron, and they are a "mass" producer with very high quality. They are one of the only runabout manufacturers to offer a lifetime hull warranty. You can find killer deals on these boats, as you do not pay near as much profit to the dealer on them as say a Malibu or Mastercraft. Our boat weighs in at 3,700 pounds and the locker sac adds another 600. Combine this with the trim flexibility of the duo prop, and I have yet to find a bigger, crisper wake. Even my friends who are die-hard ski/direct drive enthusiasts humble themselves to admire this boat. Check out my post titled "Boat pics-tower install/Perfect Pass Quesstion."

We got a glastron and it does fine im kinda small so its easy for me to jump a wake. But we dont have a tower yet. But still BACK OFF THE GLASTRONS Evil or Very Mad

I have been riding behind a glastron since I started wakeboarding last year, and it's not bad, but go for the inboard. The glastron is more than 5 years old and is in amazing shape. It really looks new, but my dad is in the marine industry, so we take excellent care of it. Anyhow, I'm not gonna bash glastron bc i like my boat, but im trying to get an inboard with a tower this winter, i'm thinking moomba outback or centurion cyclone. maybe something a little older..?

You can make a very nice wakeboarding wake out of an I/O if you trim the boat right. I have a Larson 212 and it has a nice wake, we are still currently looking at Nautiques though. Another thing you want to look at is the trade in value if you ever want to get an inboard. Glastrons wont have nearly the same trade in value of a Natique or Malibu in about 5-10 years. I would go looking for a nice used inboard if I were you.

My family has a 98 sx 170 glastron. You wont have any problems getting enough air to clear the wake, but you really wont get the solid pop you get from an older mastercraft, weighted or otherwise. Im hoping the fat sac and a pylon will make a difference.

Hey,

I will agree with everyone when they say to buy a used comp boat. I personally own a 2000 Glastron GX 205 and love it. If it's an option for you to afford a used comp boat I'd go for it. Other wise you will be in my shoes and continue to renovate your I/O which isn't a problem everyone likes working on their boats, but when you drop another 10,000 in modifications it just doesn't seem worth it. My GX205 hasn't given me any issues and seeing that it is almost 13 years old now and still running strong I'd say I have had a good experience. The wake isn't bad doing an assortment of tricks is no problem. If you weight it down you will put out a good wake, like it was stated earlier in this post it won't be equal to a comp boat. But there is no reason you can't accomplish most tricks. I plan on keeping my I/O for a while and the reason is because I am no where near deep fresh water. As soon as I move I will be buying a true comp boat.

Hey,

I do ride in salt water. I live on the east cost NC, so the only real lakes are a few hours inland. The boat treats me quite well. The worse part about boating in the salt water is the hours of maintenance and cleaning after every boating trip. Which is usually 2-3 outings per week. My wife and I go out to Lake Gaston for vacations so it's great being able to actually have consistent calm waters deeper than 4 feet.
