|
|
Hey, I know this has been asked before, but I was wondering how you'd go about painting a board? I was going to do something to my 02 Premier 135 DNA to customize it. I was thinking of painting it all black except for the "Premier 135" (near the nose) and the DNA 135 (near the tail). Then I was going to make a stencil of the Hyperlite logo and spraypaint that in white in the middle of the board.
I was just wondering if I'd need to sand the top at all, or if I could just spray-paint it on then cover it with a clear coat? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

a friend of mine spray painted some stuff right on the top of his parks board (as well as the bottom). he didnt put anything over the spray paint so its kinda rough where the paint is but it seems to be holding fine.

| Has the paint eaten away at the top sheet at all? That's one of the things I was worried about...

it looks just fine but he only put it on a few weeks ago...only time will tell i guess. he hasnt had any problems so far though.
you can always spray something down under the spraypaint like you would a primer...

| i've always hated the way the top of my origin looked so one night when i was smashed i broke out the spray paint and went at it. looked kinda bad and it scrapped off easily so i took a flat head and started to scrape it off. after a while i really like the way it looked all partially scraped off so i just left it. i'll try to post a pic of it.

| So if I spray paint it and don't like it, will the paint peel off so you can't really tell that it was painted? If that's the case I'm gonna do it for sure...

I sprayed mine, I first did all red then masked off flames and did a light coat of black so you could still see the red comming though. It looks pretty cool. But its started to chip off, Doesn't really matter I cracked th board anyway.
and I would think the paint will peel off that easy.

| maestro- my board is coated with p-tex so it comes off fairly easy if you just scratch. can't say if it'd be the same for your board.

| I think I'll do it in a couple days when the work load lightens a bit... what's there to lose? I've been playing around with images in photoshop trying to see what would look the best... colour combos/logos/etc... I'll definitely post some pics once it's done... maybe I'll paint my Swampthing too... we'll see...

| Ok, now I have to decide what colours to do it... I have black, silver, gray, red, gold, white, royal blue... I was thinking of doing it all black with a white logo (or maybe silver logo), or all white with a blue logo, or all gray with black or blue logo... I'll fool around with the images in photoshop and post them so you get a general sense of what it would look like....

I have spray painted my wakeskate (3d casette) , i did the whole top black grip tape and all, and made a stencil that said legit (our gay wakeboard "team" haha) and i made it look all droopie with paint kinda leading off some of the letters and i spray painted that in red on top of the black right in the middle of my board, its not to big maybe 5 by 7. and then on the bottom i had it sanded natural wood colour for a while, and that looked dope as hell but i got bored and prey painted the bottom with the Legit stencil with red a royal blue paint over and over all over the bottom to where you couldnt tell what the stencials say and its just a mess of red a blue and almost looks like some kinda of deep art that you cant understand because your just not cool enough, hahahaha. i also have trip fins in this board, there spraypainted over also (there the smallest size).

| Maestro, It seems that the paint would almost have to crack because of the board flexing unless you use the right paint. Just a thought.

I put the first coat on... I opted for a light silver, so if it looked good I could keep it or if it didn't then I could go over it with a darker colour... plus, then it goes with my new JP molded silver vest ... it looks pretty good, but it's not as smooth as I thought it would be. Hopefully that will get worked out with the next coat... I'm pretty woozy from the fumes... I'll post some pics later...

| Alrite, there are certain spots on the board where the paint is kinda lumpy... would it be possible to smooth this out once the paint is dry? Would a really fine sandpaper smooth it out after a couple coats dry? I'm gonna put some clear coat on top once I'm satisfied with it, but I really would like to have it smooth if possible... anyone have any advice?

Some updated pics... There's still some lumpy spots - i tried to sand them down but it didnt do too much... I don't really care anymore... I think I'm gonna spray HYPERLITE (the style used on the parks board) in blue on it somewhere too...
