Do any of you guys run them with your subs in your boats? I'm not sure if there is any reason to in a boat application. I'm getting my stuff together for my system and I just kinda stumped on the benefits.
What do you guys think? _________________

I have not run them. But from what I have read and heard says they are not worth it. Most say for the same money run a extra battery. In some cases of having a long run between your battery and your amp they do help.
I would just run 2-3 batterys on larger systems. Most run blue top Optimas. There are some other batterys such as Odyssey and some compitetion car audio.
I run a KX600 with 2 MTX 5500 12" and have not had any problems.....well except I planning on going to a KX2500 and run 2 MTX 9500 12". I need more bass. _________________ " I have a fever....... and the only prescription is more cow bell. " |

The way we keep ourselves from worrying about battery power on our sportfish is by making one seperate battery bank that does nothing but start the engine. There is a whole different bamk that runs all the electronics. We run 2 group 27's and a D4 to start the port engine and 2 D4's, 3 Group 32's, and a Group 27 to run all the electronics. If we manage to run down all the battery power running electronics we know that we can always get one engine fired, which can start the other off the alternator. I would make one seperate bank for each system (engine and sound).
Hope that sense and was helpful.

| I say nae on the capicitors too. Unless you have long wire runs from your batteries to your amps they are of not much use. IF you have room get a coupel golf cart batteries. they are the same size as a regualr car battery but a littel taller. And ther specs are 5-6 times greater than anything else you can fit in your boat (battery wise) you must moutn them rightside up, no akward mounting. Optima's and such are great batteries but if you run your batteries for extended amoutns of time and continually discharge them , GC batts. are the way to go. |

If you use a cap as insurance if you already have one it is not going to hurt anything is it? _________________ My therapist says it is all your fault. |

.5 farad for every 500watts RMS. Round to the closest whole number.
Caps make a difference in the mid and mid-bass. They allow amps to surge much higher current numbers for quick and loud snapy hits. A guitar transient will have a cap drained in no time... so unless you are unhappy with how your snares and kick drums sound it's not worth it.
They are not a replacement for battery or alternator capacity. _________________ Board: 05 Hyperlite State 145
