I installed an old style wedge on a PS190 a while back and a lot of reinforcement was needed on the transom to handle the added force and stressed created from the wedge. It was very noticable to just push on the wedge with my foot in the down position and the area where it was mounted flexed quite a bit. Just because it is bolted through does not necessary mean it is strong enough. If you do install something similar, be sure to reinforcements are made. Here's a picture of my old boat with the wedge.

riverside,
I don't own the boat any longer so I can't take any pictures of it. It worked pretty good, and definitely made the wake bigger. It was pretty steep and peaky and probably would have helped if more weight would have been added to the bow with the wedge down. I didn't mess around with weight distribution as much as I could have. It did make the boat hard to turn when idling since the wedge likes to make it go straight. Gas was cheap when I did it so I didn't pay attention to consumption with the wedge vs. sacks.

vawakemonster,
I had to notch my rudder to get the wedge completely down, it was a tight fit.

super4011, You can get a hydraulic stabalizer fin, and that would act pretty much the same as the wedge. It's just a suppliment for ballast for getting a part of your boat down. With the fin, you just adjust trim.

the wedge makes a pretty noticable difference, at least it did for me, my flat wake to wake air went from like 6 feet to maybe 7 or 8
