I'm just doing the anything from the upper intermediate to the lower advanced level tricks although last year i landed a couple bel-airs when i was just showing off and i've been working on a raley for a lil while, but i haven't tried it one after another yet, i just do it when the people in the boat ask for it . I'm happy with I got whether the stuff is free or discounted it's all good. No Fear makes some nice stuff so I'm glad they picked me |

I'm going to send them an email to see if they'll sponsor me. What do you guys think? Think I'll get the sponsorship?
Actually, I'd much rather ride for a company that makes stuff for wakeboarders, not a company that makes stuff for skaters, surfers, snowboarders, motox-er, raver, techno dj, chefs, window washers...oh, and wakeboarders. |

No Joe, I don't.
I'm not saying that because I don't think you are unqualified, but rather because I sent an email a few days ago, and they said that they already gave out all of the availible sponsorships away. You do get a 40% discount however.
"Dear Athlete,
Thank you very much for your interest in No Fear. Your qualifications are impressive and you exhibit a clear dedication to your sport. The 2002 / 2003 No Fear Professional and Support Team Rosters are currently full, but we would like to invite you to place a one-time purchase at greatly discounted prices (40% off retail) on No Fear products. Please keep in mind that this offer is only good through January 31st, 2003 and is intended for products for your personal use only.
No Fear is dedicated to providing top quality clothing that offers uncompromising quality and looks. Please review our website at www.nofear.com for product information. Or send $ 5.00 for sticker kit and No Fear catalog.
No Fear"
I like this quote, "Your qualifications are impressive and you exhibit a clear dedication to your sport." It's funny just because I didn't submit any qualifications since I am terrible. |

i think its complete bs. i was "accepted" with a gold sponsorship but the contract they gave me was for some type of a "biker" not a wakeboarder. if they can't even get the sport right then screw it. The email they sent me was also very generalized and said i had the right outlook on the sport and my future goals were what they are looking for. i never mentioned anything about my future goals or outlook on the sport. it's a ploy to help them make more money _________________ Glass and Powder Boardshop

No Fear is probably the biggest poser company out there.
We need Volcom, Matix, Dub to step up and sponsor some riders. These are core companies with a great image. _________________ beer |

| It seems that none of you have a clue how to get sponsored. It's called competing kids. And not just entering contests, but standing out and finishing in the top 3. I'll tell you right now, 40% off is not being sponsored. |

No disrespect, but I disagree with Ride5.
Getting sponsored is NOT about riding in all the contests & finishing on the podium. I would say that you need to do those things to go Pro or pursue an income-generating career in wakeboarding.
I'd say that you have a better chance of getting Rep or regional level sponsorship by being stoked on the sport, having a positive attitude, good first impression and a lot of days on the water. Also have a good rapport with the local shop owners & demonstrated a thorough knowledge of the sport from the retail point of view as well as the athletic point of view. If you can make the company money then the company has a good reason to spend a little on you. |

Jedsterr:
You are right to an extent....If you are marketable a company will back you. But, no company is going to support you if you have'nt gone out and proven yourself by riding everyday as well as competing. Sure you can be cool and represent the sport in a good way, but being the nice guy just does'nt cut it for solid sponsorship!
40% off is not a sponsorship, it's wholesale!
No disrespect, but some insight on the way true sponsorship works. |

True.
I suppose that there are many levels of sponsorship or support you can get from companies, or from individuals who represent those companies.
If the focus of the sponsorship is a hook-up for gear there are a lot of ways to achieve that goal. Sometimes contractual, other times more informal.
If you're looking to get paid for print exposure and competition results on top of the free product than its another process entirely. This would be contractual by necessity.
In either case it's still a situation of I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine. The trick is catching the right person when they've got an itch.

Also, agreed, 40% off is not sponsorship. Sponsorship could mean a lot of different things to different people.
-To Joe Weekender retail is reality so 40% off is like sponsorship.
-To Bob Shopguy everything 40% is reality so free equiptment would be like sponsorship.
-And lastly Samipro Rider who's been getting free gear for a couple years from a local shop would be stoked to get "sponsored" with a money contract.
At least thats the way I see things. Kyle, your deeper into the industry than I am so you definitely know the in's & out's of solid sponsorship. I always appreciate your insight. |

| if you ask me whoever came up with this scam is a genious. if you like the deal that's cool it's your choice but the only reason no fear is sponsoring people is to sell more product. i doubt that there is a team rep that even knows who you are and i doubt they really care if you go out and promote their product. seriously has anybody who's applyed not gotten sponsored? |

Ok, sure Zane's a nice guy... but is he not also a very talented rider? I think Joe's saying you can't JUST be a nice guy to get sponsored... you have to have some skill too...
S.B... let's send threats to them for discrimination... we could sue them... who needs a sponsorship? Just win a lawsuit and buy yourself a 210 Team ed! Or, at least a new board.... |
