Hey. So I can land tantrums like 5/6 of the time. But, they look really sloppy and i don't land them very smoothly. It's usually a fight to stay up on my board when it hits the water. I got the sequence pics for ya to check out. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

WHOA, whats going on with the left side of that wake??? (right from the boat) Clean that shizz up. That could be a part of your problem, the wake is washing ove the board.
BTW, I love the 04 transits.

we had our ballasts (is that how it's spelled?) filled, and i had two big guys on the left side of the boat, adn two really skinny guys on the right. I just wanted the wake to be bigger on my heelside, so i could jump higher. Should I have them even it out next time? _________________ "What? When did the ballast break? Yeah, big time. Keep in mind, the landing is just as important. If you stand tall more you'll get more than enough height for a tantrum.

Exactly, in the second picture if you were standing tall, you would get more pop, a solid rotation, which would pretty much keep you from clipping the wake so you can land easier. |

Try leading with your head a little more as well. It will open up your chest and allow you to spot your landing sooner. In that third pic you should almost be looking straight down at the water.
And def. even up those wakes. What speed are you riding at, looks a little slow? _________________ Hold up....Wait a minute.... Let me put some pimpin in it! mmmmph |

The reason they look sloppy is two reasons.
1. In the first pic you are not cuttin very hard, and in the second Pic you can see that the angle the board is at during the first part of the rotaionis still not aiming right at the boat which means you are not surfing the wake enough. A tantrum can be done many ways but a good looking tantrum is most dependant on the cut. Come in faster, then you wont have to worry about the wake being loaded to the heelside cuz you will get the pop anyway; This will also help your landing because you will land away from the wake and wont case the second wake. Coming in faster gives you the momentum to carry you across the wake and generate line tension and pop after surfing the wake really hard. If you come in harder you will have to transfer edges faster and make the movement more deliberate before you leave the water as opposed to squaring up in the air. get the board pointing at the boat before you leave the water. Doing this will give you a bigger tantrum and slightly sower rotation but will make it more of a rail over rail rotaion and make it look a lot cleaner.
2. The second thing i noticed that would clean it up is your handle position. Get the handle in tighter to your body and right beside you lead hip. The Handle is always the pivot point of the rotaion. So the reason your tantrum looks a little sloppy is because the pivot point is close to you shoulder hight and so that means on one side of the pivot point is your haed and the other side of the pivot point is the rest of your body. Becasue of this your head is spinning at a slower speed than your feet. This is also affecting your landing, beacuse your whole body is coming around so fast having it instantly stop as soon as it hits the water is causing a big change in momentum and then you are having to compensate just to stay on your board. So if you get the handle right at you front hip your flip rotaion will be much more steady. Havign the rotaion being the same speed throughout the whole flip is key in having smooth landings. If you look at the difference between pic 3 and 4 you will see that in pic 3 your legs are in line with your body but in pic 4 your legs are ahead of the rotaion so you can get your feet under you. If you take it a little bigger by edging harder and surfing the wake more, and get the handle at your hips you will have more time in the air and a much smoother more controlled rotaion which will allow you to have smoother landings and not have to compensate from uncontrolled rotation speed and sloppy rotations. I hope this helps |

Hey guys, guess what? I took your advice, adn it worked! I threw a monsterous tantrum. The only problem......wasn't expecting to get that much air, extended my legs too early. When i finally did hit the water, my knees were pretty close to locked. My left knee bent some directions that it's not suppposed to. Turns out i dislocated it. I'm out for a monthish. Sucks. But hey! Thanks for the advice. Definetly worked! _________________ "What? When did the ballast break? Where's some fat chicks when you need them?" |
