Well, I am 6'4" 230 lbs. I ride a Hyperlite Scape 116. It is a flat deck, with foam top. I know that people will probably give me stuff for riding that deck, but I got it for like $75 brand new.. and not knowing if I was going to like it.. I think it is defintelty worth it. If I proceed to learn on it, then I will most likely sell it, and buy a concave deck..but you are talking about twice as much, if not more.
I enjoy just riding around on it, like surfing, carving the waves, etc. I can ollie, lipslide, getting ready to try shuvits, etc..
Works for me at this point.

I got a Satilytte 04 Team deck for 135 shipped with grip and fins. I tried it and I'm hooked.

if you have the money for a concave skate get it,cause it will help learning, but if not, a cheap one will work fine until you get better. i rode a flat skate for about 2 years and it was great for fooling around and stuff, but if you get more serious about it, get a concave.
