so, I'm pissed off. What else is new, right?
At our local grocery store, the wonderfull people who make Pepsi (I think it was Pepsi) put a machine that dispenses free soda samples.
The machine is full of bright lights, it makes fun video-game like noises, blinks on and off. But what gets me the MOST is that the handles for the free soda samples are at a height appealing to little kids. I watched no less than a dozen kids in 15 minutes run up and get multiple free samples of carbonated sugar water. This sickens me, and I can barely contain the desire to smash that machine with a sledge hammer.
But the other day I saw something that just disgusted me. This BIG, FAT, 300 lb tub of lard was standing there sucking down free soda. A horrid image, right? But it gets worse. Next to her was her kid, probably around 12, must have weighed at least 150-170lbs. And the mother fat lard was giving the baby fat lard free soda samples.
What the HELL is wrong with people? I wanted to go up to that woman and knock the pop out of her hand and just scream "How fukcing FAT do you have to get? Is your self-image so bad that you have to condemn your kid to grow up a fat, smelly, lard-assed walking diabetic coma, just like you? DAMN IT, YOU HOG!" _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide |

cameraboy, settle down Beavis.
It seems that you may be the one who needs to cut back on your caffeine and sugar consumption based on the above rant! _________________

| cameraboy, ^^^^^^^STAR^^^^^^^^^ I could not agree more about fat people. The machines aren't necessarily a bad thing though, its marketing, just like the Redbull METs (Mobile Energy Team), the people who walk around and give you free Redbull. For companies like Pepsi its no longer about just pepsi, people got bored with that a long time ago. Now its Pepsi Lime Vanilla Cherry Twist and crap like that, So, pepsi has to try these things out and see how people like them. It is the people who abuse it, and the fact that it is marketed towards kids that sucks. |

Dpierce37, I depart from you when you say "these people."
I'm sure there ARE people with disorders who get fat. But right there, in front of me, was proof that this woman was not only fat of her own account, but what really upset me was that she was giving it to her already obese kid. That's not fair to that kid, to be made into a fat tub of crap just because her mother was one. _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide |

ontrider, I don't debate the legality of the machine, nor do I think it should be MADE illegal. I am mad because that poor kid, with that huge hulk of stink-flesh for a mother, is being condemned by either stupidity or selfish malice, to be just as fat and unhappy as her mother.
I also don't like the sneaky way that the soda company put out the samples, CLEARLY marketed towards kids. I think that's unethical.
I don't think there should be LAWS about this, I just wish that people wouldn't stand for this and make a statement with their spending dollars, not go and get free samples for their already obese child. _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide |

| cameraboy, It is just sickening the stuff some parents let their kids eat and drink.....I will only give my son pop once a month or so......the parents ARE in essence, ruining their kids lives by feeding them like they do, nobody wants to be fat.........why they do it is beyond me. Doing it to yourself is one thing, but kids, it's not right, for sure. |

And you're kid is probably not a fat pig. If they were, I bet you would do something about it, and probably discourage them from bad eating habbits, right? You CERTAINLY wouldn't be shoving free soda samples down your kids mouth if he/she were obese, right? _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide |

HAHA.
I think CB's right on. This country has wayyy to many fat people and even more proplr who do nothing about it. Today in my gym class we did our "physical fitness test" and some of the kids couldn't run 1/4 mile without stopping. Others did a maximum of 20 sit ups in a minute, and they were WINDED! I couldn't believe that. It seems that the more obese they are the less they will do about it.

In general, yes. They are usually insecure (because of their weight) and hence, feel the need to put others down.

True, but in alot of my experience they got bullied by the skinny kids, grew up (high school) and bully those same kids. A kind of revenge thing I think.

I dont think the issue starts or ends with the free soda machine. The responsibility for obesity is a personal one. If the individual is under 14 it is a parental one. _________________ You know you own someone when you can agitate them enough to quote you in their signature. |

| Fat kids are not bullies they are too lazy these days. THere is this kid that goes to church with my parents that is way overweight and is in 3rd grade. The thing is his family doesnt have that much money so instead of getting a pogo-stick he gets a box of twinkies. It is terrible what his parents are doing to him. |

I can't quite put my finger on it but something about jon4press's irk's me. I don't blame him as much as the kids that are rich as **** and fat. I know that you said it's his parents, and I agree about that in a sense. I also think that he should take some initiative and go running or something. This may make me sound insensitive or something but there was something there that I didn't agree with... I just can't tell what.

In my best sixth sense voice "I see fat people"........
Fact is no-one takes responsibility for themselves. It's the parents fault, the kids fault, the TV made me do it. Yes these are all influences, but it still comes down to one person, them.
Put the twinkie down!!!! |

"Pop" is what it is here in Nebraska. I used to live in Colorado and it was 'soda'. I moved here, asked for a soda and people always asked where I was from. _________________

IMO it isnt an intake problem as much as it is an output problem. Kids are kids and shouldnt be sticking to diets. They should be provided 3 squares and have snacks available. A kid should be out burning his intake so fast he cant eat fast enough. However, in todays "how many houses can we fit in a block" society, where is a kid to play? When I was growing up, my boundries were plain and simple: 30 min bike ride. I could go as far as I could ride in 30 min. That way when the sun started to set, I could be home before dark. In fact, I remember when I was about 11 years old, it was the fiorst time they paved the system of gravel roads I lived on. until then I had only ridden my bike on my concrete drive, gravel, and dirt/grass. I increase my range significantly on my 30 min limit. I know kids that cant leave their front lawn, and its for their own good! Its too dangerous anywhere else. The problem is that the lawn is about 6'x10'!!!
So, when I have kids, I will be buying a large piece of land in the middle of nowhere and commute an eternity every day, just so my kids can have a childhood.
No wonder its all the rural schools churning out the football players, they are the only ones with enough room to run and throw more than 10yds at a time! _________________ TONA

jason_ssr, I agree wholeheartedly in the fact that rural is best. But take it from me, rural also inhibits their social life. I live in the middle of no where and its a 15 minute drive to the nearest friends house. It SUCKS.
